The correct pronounciation of Phuket Air is POO-KET AIR.

Oh no, not another rapid expansion of a small airline with a used 747. Where will they deploy the 747 on?

May be on BKK-HKT - as TG already use 747's on this route

I think this is correct, not 100% sure
it is the BUU but I heard that a Thai
airliner bought 2 KLM 747's.

They are for Phuket Air. They are expanding their services to international destinations.

Orient Thai is acquiring B757s for new hourly services from BKK to Chieng Mai (CNX) and Phuket (HKT).

I sure hope they know what they are doing. Phuket Air made an attempt in opening a new route to Chittagong in Bangladesh from Bangkok. After a few months, they had to suspend that service. My feeling is that Thai fills in the 747s on that route because it has the resources to bring in thousands of passengers from across the world to its hub in BKK and then funnel them to the tourist resort of HKT. I wonder if the internal Thai demand is that great to warrant a 747 by Phuket Air. You would think they could try something smaller, like 767 or 310 rather than jump to such a large aircraft. Who knows, they obviously know something I don't.

The directors of Phuket Air discuss adding new routes:

"What aircraft should we get to start these new routes?"

"767!" says one director

"not big enough, get a DC-10!" says another

"Aw, Phuket, let's get a 747!!!" says the CEO

Sorry, couldn't resist.  Laugh out loud I hope they don't start servicing the US with those planes...they will be the butt of jokes.

Oh, too many old 747 for Thai airlines already. I don't like them due to performance and ages reasons.  Sad
Let's just blame it on yields.

orient thai operates B742 on its routes to HKG n ICN from BKK & HKT, guess Phuket Air just wants a slice of the pie...anyhow I think a B747 can be easily filled on a HKT-PVG or HKT-PEK and even a HKT-NRT

You sure it's not for Thai Pacific who are planning 747 operations from late this year to a number of international destinations?

I would think that B767s will be better suited for their expansion.

Oh well, hope they are not another one of those get-a-b747-but-finds-out-its-too-big-and-can't-fill-them airline and eventually cease operations due to excessive expenditure in that.. sounds a bit like Indonesia Airlines. Oh well, hope not.

Wish them all their best if it was indeed Phuket Air.. better get it right and not phucket up.
