BA To Move Hong Kong Flights To LHR Terminal 1?

Wed Nov 05, 2003 11:45 pm

I was just checking out BAA's website and it would appear that from March 28th 2004 BA flight BA27 LHR-HKG will move from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1. Can anyone confirm this and if so explain why this is happening?

I guess it's to do with connecting passengers coming from Europe on British Airways, as T1 is where BA's European flights go.

In that case why just the HKG flight and not the others? Just noticed the other BA flight is due to be moved to T1 also. Maybe this is due to capacity at T4?

Other long haul flights that generate a lot of feeder traffic will be moved also, JFK being one. Connections will be made much easier for transfering passengers as you won't have to make the mammoth trek between T4 and T1.

Is this part of Project Octopus (I think that was the name, something like that anyway), to shift flights around to make connections easier ?

"In that case why just the HKG flight and not the others?"

The two Tokyo Narita flights and the two Johannesburg flights are operating out of T1 at the moment!

P.S. I hope they put extra c/i desk at T1 - those little tiny islands are no good at all for big flights, the queues go round the houses and out the door ! Its bad enough with SA trying to check in their 2 JNBs and a CPT at once, bedlam - now add BA doing theirs, what a nightmare !

With 4 (Well with the Hong Kong flights) British Airways B747 flights and 3 South African Airways B747 flights all in there around the evening period i'm guessing the check in area is going to be pretty crowded. Thats over 2000 people at around the same time, not to mention all the evening short haul departures. The morning is going to have the same flights arriving from their destinations, so the Baggage claim will get pretty crowded too!

BA have opened a new Club/First check-in called island R.

It is a superb facility away from the current mass check-in areas. It has its own currency exchange and own security check point - which come out in the tax free area!

I used it the other day flying Club to Madrid.
