Alaska To SLC

Thu Nov 06, 2003 2:23 am

Alaska airlines has leased 2 gates on the B concourse in SLC.
Guess the scuttlebut a few weeks ago about DL & AS forming some sort of partnership is true. I have heard that 1 routing will be SEA-SLC-PHX (& this makes sense, since all you have now on DL from SLC to PHX is CRJ's)

sweet, although I would rather take a Delta 763 to SLC over an AS 737.

Is this a new lease, or the old lease QX had on gates at SLC back when they still served that market? What's your source of information on this lease at SLC?

Well Royal, I hate to break it to you, but the good ol' days of flying DL 767's to SLC are almost over. Effective January, service has been slashed from 6x daily to 4x: 1x 752, 2x 73x (733's and 738's), and a Skywest CRJ.

So given with what DL has done to SEA-SLC service, I will gladly make the switch to AS.

Best Regards,
Steve

grim!

I love the first class cabin on those 763's. I will miss that flight.

A CRJ from SEA-SLC? That Alaska 737 is looking REAL GOOD.

Yeah it is. I was so pissed off at DL when I first found out that I booked a cheaper ticket on UA. Granted, a 2-hour flight turns into 5 with an hour at SFO, but oh well. I really hope that AS opens this up soon.

And P.S... about my earlier post regarding aircraft effective in January, I think one of those 73X's might be an MD-90.

It would be very cool if Horizon or Alaska operated to SLC. Their service is much better than Delta's. However, it just seems like Alaska doesn't know where SLC is.

This is excellent, very much so.

For the longest time I couldnt imagine why Alaska wasn't operating out of SLC. Of all the places they served I would have thought for sure they'd at least have something out of Salt Lake. But not until now.

Thank goodness. I'll also be happy to see gates B2 and B4 occupied again. Those are the two former DL gates on the B concourse.

In the good old days (God I miss them), there used to be a 727 always parked long-term at B2. Never knew why but anytime there was a plane at that gate it was rarely for a short turnaroud. Often it'd sit there for half the day before flying out. Usually an N4xxDA series 727, one of the ones that were first to hit the scrapyard at VCV rather than the storage yard, sadly.

I always enjoyed that "friend" sitting there at that gate. God I love them 727s.

Anyway, it'll be nice to have those vacant gates occupied again, even if it is with a 737. I do hope that it'll be an MD-80 though, if for nothing other than the pleasure of seeing a friendly T-tail at B2 again.

Now, start hoping for AirTran to be the next airline to call SLC home. We'd welcome them with open arms! The more the merrier.

Does Alaska/Horizon plan to service PDX to Salt lake City also?
