NWA Aircraft In New Colors

Thu Nov 06, 2003 6:36 am

I was wondering how many aircraft NW has in the new colors as of right now (11/5). I was also wondering how many they will have painted in the n/c by March (since that is when im flying on them next)

Thanks A lot

I'll be nice and reply  Smile

The latest update given was 65 airplanes including 18 new deliveries since April. This was from October 20th.

Why do you need to know how many will be in the new colors? They are all going to be the same on the inside, unless you plan on flying a 744 in the business class.
If you are flying a DC-9-10 or -50, ARJ, or SF340, there is a nearly 100% chance you are not going to be on one in new colors. The DC-10 is TBD yet, that of which I am still hoping gets painted.
Have fun on your flight in March, be sure to take lots of pictures. You will miss the bowling shoe when it is gone.

BTW, why did you start two threads on the same topic? It is okay for you to post again in the same thread, but not start a new one about the same thing.

If it was because you could not find your original topic, you can use the search function at the top of the page. You could also view your profile and search to see what threads you have started. There are many ways to get answers around here, many are willing to help. Just don't flood the forum.

I don't know about y'all, but I don't like the whole NWA titles on the side of the a/c, looks too much like the "Rap" group. (I wont expand the acronym).

TJ-
I have only spoken the truth of the matter. The paint on the outside of the plane has no bearing of what is going to be on the inside, with the exception of it maybe smelling a little different. Besides that, the 744 business class is the only class where you could experience a difference in the cabin because not all have been converted yet.

Also, I hope it was not a scold, just advice. Each time you post you are able to review the rules, I was just bringing them to the attention of the poster. I also suggested other ways to find the information he needs without making a double-post. I also saw that he was a new member, that is why I said welcome and used the  Smile/happy/getting dizzy, it was meant to be nice. I understand that expressing yourself online is a tough job, interpreting is even more iffy. I am just putting the information out there to use. When people first jump on Airliners.net or any other internet forum, it can be an intimidating place just because they don't know what is going on. That is why other people answer their questions or drop in to help.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Is it just me, or is Northwest repainting its fleet much faster than, say, US Airways did after its 1997 livery change? I remember that it seemed like a year before I saw many US Airways-livery planes here at DCA and BWI. Northwest announced its new livery in, what was it, June, and it seems like every time I go to BWI or DCA I see a DC-9 or 757 in the new livery.

I for one will miss the "bowling shoe" a lot, it's a much better livery than the boring new "aluminum can."

Here at MCO I only seem to see the old livery... But then again, I don't visit the airport terribly often.

All of the 757s that were sent to Asia were painted in new colors prior to their departure. They did operate in the US for a little while before they were sent over. Except for the -300s, you probably won't see as many 757s in new colors as you did last month.

About 50% of the -9s I see here in CLE are new colors.

CLE must be getting lucky depending on how you look at it with the new colors. I visited DTW a couple of weeks ago and the -9's were no where near 50% repainted.

I was down at DTW spotting 3-4 weeks ago, surprinsgly there were many NWA airplanes in new colors that departed ( I was spotting on top of the McNamara parking garage overviewing the runways ).

I'd probably say, for every 5 OC that departed, 1 NC departed. Note, that ratio isn't including Regional Jets/Props ( ARJ, CRJ, Saab, not included ).

The new livery does look very sharp though, in my opinion. However it looks like they got the idea from JAL, as their paint scheme looks a little similar.
Flying a plane is no diff. from riding a bicycle. Its just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. -'Airplane'

There are two or three DC-9-50's in the new paint job, 9860 is one exapmle. These are fairly recent additoins. The only DC-9 fleet with out any A/C in the new colors are the -10's.

6316 arrived Wendsday night at MSP in the new paint and with the new seats so that's 2 744's in the new paint that I know of. It will enter reveune service either today or Monday.

The new livery is nice but if you look at it in the right light it looks really blotchy. It probably won't age well with de-icing fluid...
