TSA Predicts Longer Lines During Holidays

Thu Nov 06, 2003 10:46 pm

The folks at TSA have made an amazing prediction: There will be longer lines during the Thanksgiving and Christmas travel seasons!

They can't find box cutters in carry-ons, but they can confidently predict what any frequent flyer already knows--lines get longer during peak travel times.

Very impressive.

Some of this comes from granny forgetting we have security and being worried she may miss the 3:45 DC-3 to St Louis. The amateur fliers slow down security but not nearly as much as the morons behind the monitors. The TSA sucking has been beaten to death. We know they are worthless but the dept of homeland insecurity never polled Airliners.net.

I am thankful for Elite security lines. It saves me quite a bit of time at DFW and STL (often at STL the elite line has maybe two or three people in it while the main line is 15-20 minutes long).

In a related story, the government also announced a link between:

Cholesterol and heart attacks
Depression and suicide
Smoking and lung cancer

Wow, the TSA really is amazing: I just wish we had intelligent agencies like that over here as well... NOT....

Long lines at airports during holidays - now who would have thought of that...

On the other hands, politicians still think they can spend every Euro/Dollar/Yen/Whatsoever at least three times...

I know the point TSA is making is that they've had to reduce staff due to budget problems, but I thought the Administration was going to make things such as TSA a priority, so they would be fully staffed.

Did I miss something along the way??

think we're being a little harsh here? do you guys flood AAA with phone calls when they warn that traffic on the roads will be worse than normal over holiday weekends, and that people should leave early if possible and allow a lot of time? do you complain to the local tv stations when they report that malls will be crowded leading up to christmas, and that shoppers should try to avoid going on weekends? TSA is only giving practical reminders - i'm sure if they didnt do so, and some of you had to wait in a long line at the airport without thinking that this was a possibility, you'd start up another thread complaining about that too.

dont get me wrong, TSA isn't a model organization. but it's being created and maintained in a manner analgous to a car being built and repaired while its driving 55 mph down the highway, with traffic.

Potomac, to some extent you might be right - but I guess that most people would be flooding AAA with calls if they were responsible for having 3 of 4 lanes of the highways closed off, had some drivers blacklisted from driving on highways without telling them why and stopping traffic at several points (and pulling the same cars out of the line again and again) to check if the car's tires were OK - while forgetting that malfunctioning lights are also dangerous...

You're right with your description of how TSA is being created - but since they were supposed to be a "priority" of the current administration, I think it quite legitimate to critizise the problems that are created by TSA.

I'd say that most people would probably critizise the TSA a bit less if they had the impression that the TSA was concerning itself more with the safety of the travelling public and less with publishing statements like the one that's being discussed here... believe me, as soon as the holidays are approaching, you'll have every TV anchor telling people to be aware of long lines at the airport about once every 10 minutes - and they would have done that even without this TSA statement.

To Bring this back again....

I have already witnessed some inexcusable activity by TSA screeners. Not only have they fully displayed the incompetence of government control - now they are effecting passengers and in the end the economics of the airline in a manner not previously expected.

Recently, the cutbacks were announced just prior to high traffic season. These screeners are are so thankful for their jobs they are actually slowing down the process during peak travel periods at some airports to intentionally send a message that the cutbacks are too deep and we need another Thousand Standing Around.

Beware this season...allow extra time.
