Eastern airlines at jfk

Eastern airlines once had a major presence at JFK. I noticed in their last schedule they didn't even fly to that airport anymore. Does anyone know why they quit and when?

While I don't know the answer for sure, I can take a guess.

I would bet the last schedule you are looking at is after the Strike. Eastern rebuilt service with replacement workers and never did get back to the full schedule. My guess is that they restarted to the airports in which they had the best loads and yields before the strike and never got back to JFK before the final shutdown.

Eastern in a sense became a victim of deregulation in the 80's. They came back about 1991 as a low cost carrier with a reduced fleet, focusing mainly on their former ATL hub.

I fondly remember my many flights out of Miami to JFK on their DC8-61s/63s. I was also on board the inaugural L1011 flight out of Miami to JFK back in 1972. Eastern back then really knew how to treat their customers with great service.
