Why No Long Range Airbus For BA?

Sun Nov 09, 2003 9:45 pm

Why is it that BA only really operate the 777 on most of the long haul routes but with some 744 flying certain high pax routes?

Wouldn't the A346 be a good aircraft to operate alongside the 777?

I understand they are tryting to cut costs but couldn't they use the same types of engines?

What I can't understand is why not BA havent placed an order for the A380! It would be very useful on high pax routes such as:

LHR-JFK
LHR-LAX
LHR-SYD
LHR-HKG
LHR-SIN
LHR-DTW

There are sooo many more routes that they could use with the A380...

Any ideas/thoughts?

DTW used to have high passenger volumes, in fact they used to operate a 747 to Detroit up until about 1998 I think, when it was replaces with a 777. The 777 came for about a year (I think) and then was replaced with the 767, which currently flies to DTW. The passenger numbers are slowly decreasing. However, amidst all that, it didn't stop Lufthansa from starting daily non-stop flights to Frankfurt in 1998.

Now back to the topic......

BA is such a fond customer of Boeing for the same reasons that EL AL, Saudi Arabian, and Singapore Airlines. It has something to do with politics and the fact that these countries are strongly allied with America, which gives them good deals on Boeing aircraft.

See I believe that no every A380 ordered up to now will be bought so the airlines like SAA are going to sit pretty and the second one comes available that an airline decided they dont it, SAA will put their hand up and I believe BA are going to do the same.
