SQ Missed Landing At ZRH?

Sun Nov 09, 2003 9:59 pm

According to "Le Matin" a SQ Boeing missed his approach and landed 2 km beyond runway threshold, last saturday.

The airplane carried out the new approach (from the south and without ILS system) and was apparently too high on the slope....

Any confirmation of this incident ?

Sorry, no confirmation about that ...

But don't you think there would have been reports on TV and newspapers if there happened such an incident ?

Regards,

Chris

Well... if it was 8 November the flight information is as follows:

Singapore Airlines Limited SQ0346 / Air New Zealand NZ4326:

Left the gate at Changi Airport at 0045 (50 minutes late)
Took off from Changi Airport at 0105
Arrived at the gate at Zurich at 0629
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

The incident is confirmed, SQ346 9V-SMZ landed on rwy34 quite late but stopped before the end of the runway.

It's the media exaggerating this incident as they're totally against the new approach procedure dictated by the German Government. Rwy34 does not have an ILS (yet) but Germany forces the aircraft to land on other runways than Rwy14 and Rwy16 due to noise abatement reasons.

Unique,

" dictated by the German Government " ?!?! Maybe it's the consequence of the swiss arrogant behavior and their feeling to be UNIQUE !!!! But it would be another debate....

Too low, I'd rather say, it's because of the bad negotiation skills of some Swiss politicians...

For 50 years, it was not a problem to land from the North, just since a few months, some people think it should change...

But you're definitely right, it would result in another bad debate!

Cheers

But is important to say that the too long landing of the SQ 744 has nothing to do with the landing procedure, it was simply a pilot's mistake. But fortunately nothing happened.

ZRH, that's definitely true! The only thing you could associate with the landing procedure is that it would not have happen on an ILS approach. VOR DME approaches are when pilots earn their money!

Nah, IGS approaches/offset ILS approachs are usually much more fun, I reckon  Laugh out loud

Besides, it's keeping your aircraft in the air after losing two engines in the middle of the Atlantic that earns pilots their real money!
