Gulf Air plans to acquire jets for short-haul routes

Gulf Air is acquiring jets for short-haul routes with Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to be issued shortly to manufacturers, said the airline's top official.

The plan to acquire regional jets is part of the airline's strategy to increase its regional network through additional flights and frequencies.

"We have issued the Requests for Interest (RFI) and next we will issue the RFPs. This could be later this month or next month," James Hogan, president and chief executive, told Gulf News.

"We will be issuing the RFPs to all the jet manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and others," he added without stating the number of jets the airline is planning to acquire or the estimated cost outlay.
