MD 80's And IFE

Mon Nov 10, 2003 9:22 am

Why no IFE on MD-80's? Is it possible to fit them with video monitors and such? You may say it's range is too short for IFE, but i flew LGA-DFW and PHX-CVG on a MD 80 and you would get IFE if you were on a 737 or a 757 on those legs. Thanks

Midwest Airlines does (or at least did) offer in-flight audio entertainment on it's MD-88 aircraft.

The MD-80 could easily be outfitted to support some sort of IFE...it's just up to the airline's. Since many airline's are now replacing the M80's with newer aircraft on longer flights, they probably figure there's no point in adding the IFE at this point in the plane's career.

There were plans at AA to put IFE on board it's MD-80's. However those plans were put on the self due to the current money crunch. Maybe when things get better we might get to see an AA MD-80 with IFE.
