WN 737s W/Winglets?

Mon Nov 10, 2003 12:01 pm

Recently a buddy of mine traveled on business to SAN. He said he saw two WN 737-700s parked side by side, with winglets.

Does WN taking delivery of, or currently operate an 737s with winglets?

I appreciate any info provided  Smile

The are equipping all of their 737-700's with them, as well as all new deliveries will have them pre-installed.

There are now 5 or 6 of the -700s that have had the winglet conversion. I was supposed to get a count for someone else the other day, and since it slipped my mind, I'll get it Monday and post it here.

Winglet-equipped -700s delivered from Boeing won't start coming until the fall of 2004. Everything else will be conversions of the 100+ -700s now in the fleet (and deliveries between now and fall 2004), at a rate of about 2 per week.

Hey OPNL,

do you know if any of them are on routes that bring them to BNA or BHM?

I know it's a lot but it would be nice to see the next few days schedule of each of these too. I thought I saw one flying into SDF the other day but really unsure about it. There was a WN employee who posted this before.

Thanks in advance,
John

All 5 are in the new Blue scheme...

Aircraft routings are customarily done 2-3 days in advance, and with all the variables involved with daily operations, are subject to change,,,

I saw my first one yesterday here in PHX. It looked really cool. Do you think it really helps with fuel economy of do they put them on there because they look cool???

I flew on one Saturday evening from LAS-SAN. Wn #1295
Captain announced that the wings were not bent, that it was a new state of the art wing tip that would conserve fuel, and would save not only money for WN to keep fares low, but will help to make the planet a better place by conserving our resources. The entire plane was fascinated by it.

Hmmm..so that's 11:55am(ET)-12:25pm. Damn, that sucks, right in the middle of the day. Worst sun angle. But if they are getting 2 per week, I'll get a good shot soon enough.

HEY! Never mind the winglet ones. Are their any special color schemes into TPA the next few days?

Who is the man on the inside of the winglet?
In the shot, the description says it is of the Texas businessman who is the one working on getting the winglets installed? That doesn't make sense to me.

The answer is Mike Levy, the publisher of Texas Monthly magazine. For years, he has been joking with Herb about adding winglets to our aircraft and having his face put on one of our aircraft. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease. His pic should be on there for about a month to coincide with his magazine's 30th anniversary.

Those winglets are supposed to increase the fuel economy, so why dont all airlines get fitting them to their 737s? They also look really cool  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

737doctor,

You've got to go sometime! Awesome, greasy hamburgers.
Cold beer, also !! Herb goes in there quite often from what
I've heard. Just never seen him in there myself.

Call me sometime and I'll meet you up there.

972-567-6653 is my cell !!

I work close to you also. I work for KE over on Stemmons Freeway.

Since the City of Dallas banned smoking in restaurants, Herb doesn't do Schmitz any more (heaven forbid he shouldn't be able to smoke during lunch!). Look for him at the Maple Point....but you're right--can't beat Schmitz for beer, burgers, and pretty much anything deep-fried.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Wow, I forgot about the non-smoking rules now. That would really change Club Schmitz, that is for certain. Although, not to stir up a debate, I really like the non-smoking rule myself.......

Where is Maple Point located, now that is where Herb goes? Heck, I might want to slip him a resume one of these days  Smile !!

We should plan a meeting at Club Schmitz. And soon !!

How about this Sunday?
