Why PA Never Had 757's And 767's?

Tue Nov 11, 2003 1:26 am

It is odd, being Pan Am a great airline and all of that, they never decided to get 757's and 767's.

Being a good costumer of the 727, 737 and 747 why not the 757 and 767?

- PA was primarily an international, not domestic, airline & really had no need for the B757.

- They choose the A300/A310 over the B767... one of the primary reasons was cargo needs.

- They choose the A320... they were delivered to Braniff II instead. PA operated only a handful of used B732, and mostly within Europe.

But why not replacing the 727's with 757's?

The A320 doesnt have that much cargo space, they could had stayed with the 737-400.

PA operated a HUGE fleet of B727... they didn't need the capacity of the B757, nor did they really have the funds to purchase it.

PA had pretty much phased out the B732... the operated a very small number, and mostly within Europe. And while I'm no expert, the A320 can carry certain cargo containers that the B737 cannot.
