TWA
Cairo, Egypt
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Pan Am,
Nairobi, Kenya

I am sure there are a lot of Middle East and African destinations that were abandoned by TWA and Pan Am.

Lagos, Monrovia, Dakar, Karachi, and Dubai were all Pan Am destinations.

How's this for a flight:

PA188, B747, New York(JFK) - Dakar - Monrovia - Lagos - Nairobi.

I think NW had a regular flight into Okinawa at one time. Not sure about it though.

Some of Continental's abandoned cities:

Dusseldorf, Germany (from Newark)
Munich, Germany (from Newark)
Santiago, Chile (from Newark)
Belo Horizonte, Brazil (from Rio de Janeiro)
Santa Cruz, Bolivia (from Lima)

Santa Cruz was an interesting one. They opened the route under the premise that they would be allowed to carry local traffic between the two cities. Apparently, at the last minute, the Peruvian government did not approve so the 757 was leaving LIM to VVI with like 7 US originating passengers. The route lasted like 2 weeks.

I'm not sure about these cities but I think CO may have also flown the following:

Maracaibo, Venezuela
Barranquilla, Colombia
Cali, Colombia

These would have been before my time so I cannot confirm but I hear that they were on 727 and were continuations of flights from San Jose, Costa Rica and/or Panama City, Panama

Both, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) where served by several US Airlines in the past and have been stopped 1975 till now.

Now, US carriers could go back to Vietnam again.

Delta

Stockholm
Hamburg
Lyon
Vienna
Copenhagen
Seoul
Hong Kong
Nagoya
Fukuoka
Buenos Aires
Rio De Janeiro
Tel Aviv
Cairo
Dubai
Leon

This is by no means a definitive list...just the ones I could remember off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more European cities that were ex-Pan Am.

Another one which came into my mind:

United offline ZRH around 1998
GVA was dropped by most carriers except CO which came back

Didn't Northwest fly into KUL (Malaysia) as well?

A lot of US carriers also flew into THR (Iran) before 1979.

Before the ascendancy of Cancun as the dominant airport on the Yucatan peninsula, a number of US carriers (United, Continental, Texas International, Eastern) used Merida as their jumping-off point for Yucatan tourism.

TWA also used to operate to Lajes/Santa Maria in the Azores and Malaga in Spain, back in the 1970s. They also served Cairo, Riyadh, and Dhahran.

Delta flew to Dubai and Cairo for a short time in 2000-2001.

Northwest tried the LAX-Hawaii-Australia route in the early 1990s but couldn't compete with Qantas and United.

Africa is woefully underserved from the United States. Granted, many of the Pan Am routes (to Monrovia, Lagos, Nairobi, Dakar, Accra, etc.) were prestige operations, but today the only real options are to Joburg and Cape Town on South African, as well as a few routes from JFK.

I think PanAm flow for an half year (long, long time ago) to Salzburg!
That was I think in the 60s.
My dad told me that.

And of course Delta to Vienna  Crying  Crying  Crying  Crying

Pan Am, JFK-Helsinki (HEL)... They used A310 on this route. Also Delta had Helsinki service too from JFK by Tristars. They dropped it during the early nineties.

I don't know if it was former-Pan Am, but I believe Delta also used to serve Prague in the '90's.
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Pan Am in Vienna with 707
TWA in Vienna with 707
maybe they operated 720?

later then in the 80es Pan Am 727 feeder flights to/from FRA with origins in Bukarest and/or Budapest

then Delta with ex Pan Am A310s to JFK and then later with 763 and sometimes TriStars to ATL, i don´t remember if there was ever a Delta flight with A310 to Atlanta
