Austrian SIN, MEL, SYD, SHA, ALA News

Wed Nov 12, 2003 12:59 am

Now that it is not a secret anymore, I thought I could post some Austrian network news:

Austrian (ops NG) will return to Shanghai in May (3/week).
Austrian (ops NG) will start flights to Almaty in March (3/week).
Austrian (ops NG) will start flights to Singapore in June (3/week).
Austrian (ops NG) will add 2 additional Australia rotations in June (9/week): 6 flights VIE-KUL-SYD vv. and 3 flights VIE-SIN-MEL vv. (Notice that MEL will be served via SIN)

Some minor changes regarding the frequency will also be noticeable on routes like: PEK, DEL, KIX...

I was important that Austrian start to fly to Singapore, after the leaving of Singapore Airlines.

When did they stop flying to Almaty??

Are you sure this information is confirmed yet? Or is this a possible scenario for use of the four ex Lauda 763 from Lauda Air Italy? If yes this sounds great.

Almaty was operated only one season i guess somehow combined with Atyrau
or so...

I am surprised that out of all the European airlines that operated into Australia (excluding BA) Austrian/Lauda Air have managed to not only maintain but increase services over the last few years.

The likes of Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Alitalia & Olympic all ceasing services using their own aircraft.

This is great news for me being a MEL spotter, will Austrian go codeshare or do it on their own and if so with which aircraft?
cheers

Does this mean they are reducing their frequency to KUL from daily now to 6 times a day?

Will the airline be flying their A342s here to Singapore?

Since MEL will be served via SIN in the future, the only KUL flights will be the SYD flights. So yes, you are right KUL will "only" have 6 flights per week. The rotation VIE-SIN-MEL v.v. will be served by B777 (Lauda)

Will be interesting to see how the Australia increase will be affected by EK´s entry into the Austrian market....

I also recognized that OS has changed the flightnumbers of flights which are operated by NG from a 3000 number to their standard system (e.g. former OS3001 VIE-KUL-SYD opb NG will become OS1 from summer on). Will we see more changes which bring NG closer to OS (new c/s, new C-Class,...)??
I still wonder why they haven´t changed NG´s identity when introduced the new OS and VO scheme in september.

Austrian pleasure ???? - as their charter division???

I know that the name Lauda is very strong, especially in the Austrian-German area, but now with Niki Lauda entering the market again with the remainders of Aero Lloyd Austria from Nov 29 on, I wonder if OS doesn´t want to get rid of the name in the mid-term future to avoid misunderstandings....

Having brought up that same question to our Sales people in Australia, the change is going to be made eventually to Austrian Airlines, they are just working currently on how it shall proceed as like Australia the name Air Lauda is recognised just as much as Austrian Airlines.

"Will be interesting to see how the Australia increase will be affected by EK´s entry into the Austrian market" - given a lot of of EK traffic is to London the EK share of Australia to Austrian traffic would be minimal in any case
as EK has many European gateways (much more than most other Asutralia to Europe carriers)

EK in 2004 will start to operate double daily out of MEL and is already in talk with Australian DOT offcials on flying double daily out of SYD.

Lauda / Austrian has made a steady growth of business with its' excellent product (the 777 aircraft is very popular among customers) and it's reasonable price (much cheaper than QF, BA, SQ, EK, MH, CX).

Premium customers moan like all hell about the C class on the 777's. From personal experience I can tell you that the C class seats leave a lot to be desired. While I havent flown NG Y class - I cant imagine the seating is all that great - with 10 abreast in LPC (and down the back of A and B) and a 31" pitch, coupled with a flaky PTV systen and a box under your seat.

Where did you get the idea that the 777's were popular from; because that is far from what I have been told or indeed experienced.

Do you know if OS service to Yerevan (EVN), Armenia will be maintained at 3x weekly, since Armenian Int'l is starting its own EVN-VIE service this week and the flight was operated jointly between these two airlines.

Armenian will now fly once weekly with A320 so maybe OS will reduce it to twice weekly?

Thanks.

OD720:

I have not heard about any changes on the EVN service. The routes to the eastern european countries are going pretty strong, so not even an increase would surprise me.

Aussie747:

Thanks for the info. I think they could do pretty good marketing with the combination of Austria and Australia with the right people in the PR-department.
