Well, nothing official on Emirates website so far ...

Is the thing confirmed or a gossip only? I mean it is known that QR is going to fly into VIE and I'm surprised if EK would follow just at the moment when QR comes into VIE.

I can see these flights in Amadeus.
For April 04 ,4 weekly A332 flights.
Is there really that much demand ex-Vienna for a daily service though?

Vienna should be maintained as a 4 weekly service only using a 3 class A 332 as it is a top destination alongside Geneva for high class premium fare paying Arabs flying F & J. Lots of Arab airlines have started and increased VIE and GVA flights since 2000, namely MEA-KU-QR-GF-RJ and Saudia???

EK doesnt need to go to daily Vienna, it wont work I think...if they want increase it to 5 weekly flights but thats it. Obviously it seems that EK expects a lot of transit traffic from VIENNA to its destinations in South/East Asia and Australia-Southern Africa...hence the daily need...but I feel 4 weekly A 332 flights are more than enough.

How is theirs and QRs MOSCOW service doing loads (pax + cargo) and reveune wise???

As it is posted correctly, it will be a daily as of mid May 2004 according to CRS. I can as well confirm the VIE slot for EK125/126.

EK is also launching daily A332 service to Glasgow starting around April or May 2004. Any other european services planned by emirates??

Cheers,

I heard reports about Finland and of course, Dublin is a perennial rumour, but nothing official as yet. Here's hoping it will be 2004 at last.

I'm surprised that EK have no Scandinavian service. Sri Lankan used to fly Stockholm - Dubai - Colombo in code-share with EK. I think there would be a market from Scandinavia/Nordic countries!

Don´t forget that as of May 2004 with the new EU-Members around some things will change - Vienna´s "Metropolitan" Area in this Central European Region will grow up to about 4,5 to 5 million covering parts of 4 countries in a circle of 50 - 100 Km with a potential market of another 2-3 million in the next couple of years. Besides that Austrian (Airlines Group) continousley expands it´s east-west network.

No facts, not even rumours, but thinking what would be plausible as destinations in Eruope:

- Geneva (actually I cannot believe they do not go there, I must have overseen it on their site?)
- Madrid, major European capital
- Malaga, seasonal in Summer, plenty of travelers from the Gulf
- Copenhagen and/or Stockholm, to capture Scandinavian market
- Berlin - OK, not a huge market, but if they can do Birmingham or Helsinki or Vienna, Berlin should be OK

Less probable, but why not:
- Barcelona
- Lisbon
- Hamburg
- Eastern European capitals (WAW, BUD, PR etc); actually, there was a thread some time again saying that apparently they planned on oing to these places and also Zareb and Sofia and so on
- why not this one: Luxembourg! Small place, but full of international bankers and business people and affluents

Vice president and head of traffic and airside operations at CPH, Hans Chr. Stigaard said the following in an interview yesterday:

"Recently Copenhagen Airport was very close to get the world wide expanding Airline Emirates as new customer - but in the last moment they decided to open a route to Vienna instead of CPH."

The question is now, if we will see Copenhagen as one of the next new EK destinations? I hope so and it would not surprise me, as it seems like they shown a pretty serious interest in adding CPH to their network.

There haven't been any announcements on emirates.com yet for Vienna nor Glasgow, which makes me believe that more new routes will probably be announced soon.

"If they can do Birmingham..."

Don't forget that Birmingham, located in the Midlands, has a huge Indian and Pakistani population (although far more Indians than Pakistanis). Accordingly, they can connect to such countries via DXB on EK. In addition, passengers flying to DXB (which is growing as a destination in its own right), other parts of the M.E., Asia, South Africa, etc., can fly from BHX instead of travelling to MAN, LGW or LHR.

and Brussels, capital of EU.
Without any asian airlines.
EK can catch some people who actually go to FRA, CDG, LHR or AMS to connect to asia.
Why not thru Dubai
4 weekly 332 'll be OK.

I think Emirates could penetrate virtually any european market successfully. By combining destinations in the way that Rome and Nice is done, many new markets could soon open up, a few of my own thoughts;

DXB-Stockholm ARN-Helsinki
DXB-Copenhagen-Oslo
DXB-Bristol-Cork
DXB-Amsterdam
DXB-Geneva-Brussels
DXB-Barcelona-Madrid
DXB-Vienna-Stuttgart
DXB-Budapest-Prague
DXB-Berlin-Hamburg
DXB-Sofia-Bucharest

Frequencies of 3/week could surely be maintained???

If EK were to fly to CPH, it would, without a doubt, be to try and gain a foothold in the VFR traffic between Denmark & Middle east/SE Asia. Which could be a problem, given that PK is already flying direct to Pakistan twice a week and a number of other airlines have direct flight to that rehion.

I can't really see a problem there!

I find it hard to believe that EK would take that many passengers from PIA and other airlines at CPH with focus on the ethnically market to the Middle East - suppose you mean Iran Air and Kish Air as I can't think of others.

The large Pakistani community here in Copenhagen would most likely stick to PIA, as it's nonstop flights and I also suppose it will be cheaper then flying Emirates.

They currently fly freighters to Taipei, would they fly pax to Taipei as well? 3 weekly DXB-TPE using A332s perhaps?
