"Project Roam" New LCC Advertisies For Jobs

Sat Nov 15, 2003 1:31 pm

I found this article somewhat interesting, & still have to wonder if Beauvais is trying to acquire the operating certificate of Midway.............

Lots of interest in jobs at Project Roam
Project Roam, the as-yet-unnamed airline that backers plan to base in Pittsburgh, aims to employ 500 by next summer. So far, the news has elicited quite a response.

Since officials announced Project Roam's plans to set up headquarters and its primary hub in Pittsburgh on Oct. 14, Allegheny County Executive Jim Roddey's office has received a "high volume" of telephone calls from people asking about job opportunities, according to Travis Tanner, president and chief executive of the airline.

In response, Project Roam set up a Web site -- -- where job seekers can leave contact information and indicate their areas of interest for the airline's consideration.

"It is reassuring to see how aggressive these individuals are," Mr. Tanner said, adding that the "highly skilled and dedicated local work force" was a "key" element in officials' decision to base the company in Pittsburgh.

Project Roam is the working name for the low-fare airline whose principal founder is Edward Beauvais, who also founded Phoenix-based America West. Plans call for Project Roam to be operational by June 2004, when it hopes to fly to five destinations and employ an initial complement of 500. Over five years, the company plans to hire more than 2,100 and fly to 39 major markets.

The Project Roam Web site says the company is compiling a "list of people interested in future employment opportunities." Interested parties are asked to send an e-mail with their names, addresses and areas of interest.

Job opportunities listed on the site include administrative, service and mechanical positions. The company says it will contact people "at a later date" with additional information about the application process.
