Thanksgiving Substitutions

Mon Nov 17, 2003 10:44 am

I understand that Thanksgiving is one of the biggest days of flying of the year.

I hear that this is the day that you'd see big substitutions like AA bringing a 767 into LGA instead of a 757 and similar changes.

Any news of anything like that coming into NYC that day?

Actually, it's the day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after Thanksgiving (the holiday itself isn't a busy travel day). Last year DL changed quite a bit of its schedule -- for example, we received a couple of B763 to-from ATL again + B738 to CVG to replace the CRJ. It looks like DL isn't playing that game this year...

IndustrialPate:

I again find myself agreeing w/ you. DL likely will just keep the a/c full.

As in a perfect world, A full flight is a profitable flight. Which DL needs!

I know DAL has upgraded equipment into and out of IND for the three big races (at The Speedway) in the past. And IndustrialPate is correct about the travel days, Wednesday and Sunday are the big travel days in the industry.

Thanksgiving Day (along with most other holidays) are usually very good days for non reving. Lower than usual loads on most routes. The Sunday after, however, is packed, as is the day before.

It's a shame that Delta doesn't fly scheduled 767's into DTW anymore from ATL...but it's not surprising.

I hope we get some upgrades here at FLL, or dowgrades. looking at 764's and 757s and A320s is boring. I do like the lone Air Transat L1011, though!

No AA upgrades like that at LGA.... A 767 won't fit.

738 Driver

AA's B767 will fit nicely into and out of LGA. If you are worried about the size of the a/c not to worry, I am sure its well within its operational limitations..

Delta flies daily 764's into LGA. Trust me, they fit.

AA has flown DC-10's and B767-300's into LGA in the past. Furthermore, I believe DL flies a B767-400 into LGA.

738_Driver likely meant that it will not fit within AA's schedule, not the airport.

AA actually brought in a 767 as an equip sub from a 757 a few weeks ago.

On a similar note, next week is typically noted as the holiday rush week for cargo operations. Here in Philadelphia because of the UPS regional hub, we typically see at least 5-10 cargo extra cargo 747's, DC-10s, MD-11's a day between Monday-Thurday.

I knew everyone would pounce on him with the 767 thing. lol

Delta flies tow 767-400s into LGA a day form ATL, arriving at 1030 and 1630, and departing at 1200 and 1800.

It's actually a her, and she works within AA scheduling. I believe she meant that AA had no room to schedule a B767 into LGA -- that that they had no room for it at LGA...

I will be flying DEN-ABQ-DEN on UA wednesday the 26th, and sunday the 30th. Is there anything I should do differently due to the high pax concentration?
