Side By Side Landings At SJC

Tue Nov 18, 2003 3:24 pm

Please tell me i'm not blind...but driving home tonite, I swear I saw what was a QX CRJ-700 and a WN 737 doing a simultaneous approach into SJC. The CRJ was going for 30L and the 737 for 30R. I was under the impression that they could not do that as the distance between runways was so short. Does anybody know if this is common practice? I hope my mind is not playing tricks on me at my young age.  Smile
The red zone is for the immediate loading and unloading of passengers only, there is no stopping in the white zone...(Ai

Under visual conditions it should be legal. I don't think there's enough distance between them for parallel instrument approaches.

As you probably know parallel visual approaches are the norm at SFO, where the runway centerlines are 750 ft apart; SJC is 700 ft. But we assume it's not common at SJC.

If the side-by-side landings were done by a couple of small general aviation planes, then such landings could be done at SJC.
