Cheap LCC In Europe-help Please!

Wed Nov 19, 2003 9:21 am

Hey,

In April, the family is going to London. We are looking at side trips out of London, returning to London. Can anyone tell me what LCC to try to go to any city in Europe (ie Frankfurt, Paris, Stockholm, Milan, Barcelona, Lisbon, Helsinki)? Also, some low fares you might know of? The dates are over Easter break of '04. Preferable the 13th to the 16th, getting into LHR with enough time for a VS connection. If the flight isn't into LHR then the time has to allow enough time to make an 8 PM flight out of LHR. Thank you so much!!

Smells like Ryanair, but forget LHR, rather stick to STN...

I actually know more about the LCC in Germany.

Go for British Airways! They fly out of LHR, their fares are cheap (often cheaper than no frills airlines) and you'll recieve food, hot/soft/alcoholic drinks, allocated seating and a comfortable cabin with leather seats! Look at http://www.ba.com for information on schedules and fares. You should also consider bmi british midland who fly to many European destinations out of LHR, their website is http://www.flybmi.com.

EASY JET OR RYANAIR

You can also catch free or service fee only flights too. Must fly out of Stansted Airport though.

Don't forget BMI. They may not be as cheap as Easyjet and Ryanair, but they do fly from LHR. This saves you quite a lot of money since you won't have to go to Stansted/Luton/Gatwick.

I have found them to be the cheapest option between LHR and AMS on several occaissions! Cheaper even than Ryanair!

You can find also very cheap flights within Europe and Italy with Volareweb.com that uses excellent new A320s and very low fares.

You can also look at Meridiana

or Alpi Eagles

For daytrips I don't know that FR is the one to go for

a) Long trip out to STN
b) Many FR stations are somewhat remote from the intended destination. It depends where you want to go to.

For London, LHR and LGW are the more convenient options, and BA and BD offer great fares for midweek travel, especially out of peak season (April can be high season, depending on Easter and School Holidays).

If this is your first trip to London then I wouldnt fool around with trying to get out to STN- knowing London and the crappy transport system the train out from Liverpool Street station will be broken down and youll have to take a bus and it could get right nasty. And actually, when you add on the cost of the return ticket on the train then flights on Ryanair or any of the others going out of there are actually more expensive than taking the mainliners out of LHR.

If you look at ba.com, make sure you click on the country of residence as UK so you can get the right fares and see when the priciest ones are. i would also recommend traveljungle.us (click on the uk flag) itll search all the low cost and normal airlines for you for the cheapest flights. ALso, British Midland, check their site- remember you get miles on VS for BD flights (not many, but 500 is better than none) and those flights are most likely to shoehorn nicely with a VS departure.

One more thing, just keep in mind that flying in from another destination on the day you are supposed to leave can end up in one very long and tiring day-therefore keep it simple and keep away from airport interchanges and too long intra Europe flight. I guess from your nick that you are probably only going to the NYC area and thats a much shorter flight than mine out here to the West Coast, but as someone who has gone CPH-LHR-LAX-RNO in one day, its not something i advise!

Hello,

go with the main lines or a least keep them in mind. On routes where there is a lot of low cost traffic they also offer interesting fares. And they usually serve the main airports.
