Weren't they interested in the A340-500? For direct flights to CDG?

The A340-600 is definitely an advance over the A340-300 they currently operate... So this would make sense, as well as those extra seats.
There was a discussion regarding the A340-500 making it to Paris... Does it have the legs to fly PPT-CDG? I believe it doesnt but correct me if I am wrong.

If they configure it like SQ is configuring theirs, sure it could make it nonstop.

They also might consider the Trent 556 instead of the 553. Rumor has it EK was considering that as well.

I find it difficult to imagine such a spacious configuration, given the fact that most traffic to PPT is leisure travel.

At 8485 nm, the PPT-CDG route is pushing the limits of an optimally configured 345. I doubt the economics would support it, but it's only my opinion.

The 346 would give them additional capacity, and flexibility, and, IMHO, would be a more ideal choice.

in fact Air Tahiti Nui approached Airbus asking to extend the range of the A345 to make it to Papeete but nothing was done about it. So the A345 cannot do a non-stop CDG-PPT.

Do they need more capacity? What are their load factors like.

i think the A346 will look good in their colours.

they can also expand the first class section on the plane, right now i believe that they have only 1 row of F on the A343. Maybe someone can confirm/deny?

8485 nm PPT-CDG.

Airbus lists the A345 range as 8500-8650 nm. A346 listed range is 7500 nm.
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

I believe those ranges are inclusive of reserves though...technically not allowed to file a flight plan if you need to include your reserves to meet your destination.

The 772LR is certainly expected to be able to cover such a distance... perhaps AF will be interested in doing so, while TN retains 1stop traffic.

If so, then the 345 too!

The 772LR will have marginally greater range than the A345. So, it might make CDG-PPT more of a reality, though I still think it's beyond the true feasible range of both aircraft.

Aside from range being the question - I'm curious if there really is a market big enough willing to pay extra for a nonstop flight on that route...

Considering that the time advantage of the SIN-LAX nonstop is just about 90 minutes over the one-stops - in that case I can still understand it because it is a business-travel-heavy route... but CDG-PPT?

I doubt that Air France will start B777LR nonstop flights to PPT within the next five years, if ever. They get additional feed from/to LAX which they certainly don't want to give up. And I doubt that yields on such a mainly holiday destination would justify to offer a premium nonstop service.

Air Tahiti Nui seems to grow well and it's a logic move to look at larger A340s. The A345 could offer them the nonstop option, in addition to their direct flights via LAX.

Yes, ConcordeBoy, we all know that the B772LR is supposed to have more range than the A345. But the aircraft is still far away (2006) and just because it offers little bit more range, not all airlines will hunt for it. Or have all B763ER airlines so far ordered the A332 just because it offers some more range?
The A340NG must really cause nightmares to you following your panic posts whenever the topic comes up...probably you should first fly on it before you judge it.

I personally, as a spotter, welcome any variety out there. The B777 is a fascinating sight, but they're getting more and more and everything gets boring if you have enough of it.

A rather pointless anecdote wouldn't ya say.... seeing as the inquiry at hand is the aircraft's ability to operate the particular routing nonstop with any decent load.  Insane
