Wondering how many commercial aircraft (including freighters) are flying above the continental U.S. at any given moment. I realize that number varies depending on the day of the week and the time of day. Any info would help.
I have been told that at one time durring the noon hour this about 4000 airplanes in our skys. Im not sure if that # includes civilian planes or not but i dont think it would considering how many of those are in the air too. 4000 sounds about right for the commercial/cargo airplanes.
To find out how many flights are currently airborne in the Continental United States at any time RLM Software provvides an interesting map of the flights. Visit: http://www.rlmsoftware.com/TravelTools/ProcessFTQuery.asp?qt=at&arrap=all
well figure there are around 3000 aircraft in the air over the US during a typical day. and say they average out with 100 people each. This makes 300,000 people, or everyone in buffalo NY being airborne at once.
