Star Alliance and Mexicana Airlines agree to termination of membership

All members of the Star Alliance in a meeting of its Alliance Management Board have today mutually agreed that Mexicana Airlines membership will end March 31, 2004.

In a joint statement, both Mexicana Airlines and the other members of the alliance express their commitment to maintain the current Star Alliance product offering including frequent flyer and lounge access benefits to their customers until the set date.

... and, Jopavon, if you put those "<" and ">" brackets around the link, then other people reading your message can even simply click on the link...

Aside from that, just to give a short answer to your question, WiLdmanVzla, I think MX said something like "due to the developments in the Mexican aviation sector" - whatever that means... but you should be able to find out more in those other two threads.
Smile - it confuses people!

What a relief !

I am flying them in a couple of days MEX-CUN-MEX and am definitely counting on these miles to bring me to Frequent Flyer status on my 'Miles and More !  Wink/being sarcastic

Are they going to be replaced in the Alliance ?

Caramba !

Kingsord:
Fly with confidence as they are keeping most interline
agreement with other STAR members. Mexicana is too
important and strategic for them to break ties completely.

I don't think that STAR will find a replacement soon. Only

Aeromexico has the structure and would comply immediatley with entry requirements. Other in Mexico
like Aviacsa are only low cost entry airlines and would
not be asked to join I asume.

Have a gread flight and let us know how it went.

I flew on them recently from ORD to MEX and their service,
aircraft interior and whole package was great and much
better than most European STAR members. Definaltely
much better than a Lufthansas I would dare say.

Thank you for the information... & I really hope that Mexicana will do a great job with OneWorld, a lot better than Star alliance for sure.
