Jet2 New Base?

Fri Nov 21, 2003 7:38 am

Jet2 currently fly from LBA to various routes around Europe using the 733, but im sure that they could expand to at least one other airport in the UK...

Personally I think they could chose from these airports

BLK (Blackpool) - Not many airlines there
LGW - Big Market
EXT (Exeter) - Only 1 major airline there
CWL - Room for more EU Flights - BRS market already taken by EZY + FLYbe..

Any ideas/thoughts?

BFS I think - they have been advertising for crews to be based there (Jet2 specifically, not just Channex).

There was talk of PIK being a base (or rather talk of an AMS-PIK service) but I wonder if they will just concentrate their efforts just at LBA rather than spread their wings?

LGW can be taken from that list, I have been told by someone at Jet2 LGW will not be a new base, well not in the short term anyway

How about BOH or SOU - large markets, and not SO far from London. Or SEN, close to London/Essex markets (is SEN restricted at all ?)

"is SEN restricted at all?"

Runway is a bit tight @ 5,266ft. They would pick up load restrictions on the longer flights (like AGP) and would wear the s**t out of their engines doing full thrust take-offs all the time.

Southampton is gonna happen sooner or later - the Portsmouth/Fareham/Southampton/Bournemouth region is massively populated, and Bournemouth / Hurn isnt well enough served, and LGW/LHR is quite a way away up the M3/A3. I'd be chuffed to bits to see it.

I wonder, is the SOU runway long enough to operate 733's at MTOW normally? I saw the Leeds football team fly down to SOU in a JET2 733, but it was a private charter so probably used hardly any runway - normal operations may be different.

Any thoughts? How about OXF?
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Newcastle? I think EZY show that there is a market, FR only operate to DUB, so Jet2, come here! Our runway is nice and big and we have over 1million people within 1hrs drive of the airport.

My money would be on BOH, as the area can sustain far more low cost services than it currently has and it is also the base of Channel Express who own Jet2.

As someone who has flown Jet2 , I cannot speak highly enough of their service/aircraft/staff. If another base is chosen then the people of that region can consider themselves very fortunate!

I think that the only way SOU will get a low cost airline is if an airline uses the BAE146 or a similar aircraft with a short runway takeoff space....

Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh would be great bases. Not much competition for the international routes. Ryanair fly from PIK but thats too far away.
next flights : BD LHR-TXL J, FR SXF-STN Y, SN BRU-LHR Y, MA LHR-BUD Y, BA BUD-LHR J, BA LCY-SNN-JFK J, BA JFK-LHR J, BA

Probably get shot down for mentioning this, but i have heard rumours that they have been in negociations with a certain airport in the midlands that is not BHX or EMA...
