Continental Odd Routes

Fri Nov 21, 2003 1:14 pm

What routes does CO operate that do not originate in IAH, EWR, CLE, or Guam?
I can only think of a few.

LAX-HNL
SEA-ANC
And the rest are just wrap around flights
EWR-MBJ-KIN-EWR
EWR-ANU-SXM-EWR

Are there any others. Does the LAX-HNL and SEA-ANC do well?

Didn't hey serve LAX or SAN from SAT? I also think they had a Mexico route from SAT, but I know they dont have that anymore. I think SAT just gets service to EWR and IAH now possibly a COEX to CLE.

They flew SAT-LAX pre 9/11. SAT does get service from CLE.

I forgot they also have the "Island hop" flight between GUM and HNL. There may be more in "CALmike" but i'm not sure.

SAN-MEX was flown nonstop for quite a while with an MD-80...ended before 9/11 I believe.

Also one of my personal favorites....JAX-PNS, continuing to IAH, with a 737-300.

There's of course the CommutAir hub in ALB, and the intra-Florida flights of Gulfstream and CapeAir.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

They also operated ATL-BHM and ATL-CAE. Although, I believe those were tag legs up to EWR. Meatball experts speak up!

I wonder if we will re-instate the PDX-ANC flt. It was great to add some more flts up to ANC. COEX used to fly to MCO/TPA from RIC/ORF when we started flying RJ's out of LGA. I wish we were still doing that. THe amount planned though made no sense. Where in the world would they put all those planes? We were already flying MSN/GRR/BUF/RIC and then planned TYS/DAY for mid Sept. 01. What about HPN. They were scheduled 5 CLE/6 BOS/4 YYZ/4 DCA. That is quite a bit.

During the mid-90s, I remember them operating ATL-CHS as an extension to an IAH.

What ever happened to the LGA RJ mini-hub? Are those plans completely scrapped? Do they still hold the slots for it? Also do they still have the flights between EWR and HPN? To me that made absolutely no sense.

COEX used to do some flying out of HPN ... to BOS and YYZ I believe.

For about two months, CO operated a tag from LIM to LPB and from LIM to SCL, these were continuations of EWR-LIM and IAH-LIM.

There is also the current tag of (IAH-)GRU-GIG and (EWR-)BOG-UIO. Seasonally, CO operates a Saturday-only EWR-BZE-SAP frequency, as well.

LAX-IAH is not too surprising, since it connects with Flight 1 to Guam.

In 1991 CO purchased Eastern's LGA slots from the bankruptcy court, they operated the following flights from '91-'92.

Laguardia-

Atlanta 4 daily- Buffalo 4 daily- Detroit 4 daily- Ft.Lauderdale 4 daily- Fort Myers- Miami 4 daily- New Orleans 2 daily- Orlando- Tampa- West Palm Beach- Bermuda

There are a couple more Im forgetting right now, these flights were on top of their flights from LGA to IAH, CLE and Denver Stapleton.

I also flew EWR-GSO-JAX-TPA on one flight number probably about 1994 or so when they had the GSO mini hub.
