BA 737s

Fri Nov 21, 2003 7:20 pm

Hello,

I am trying to get any background on the current fleet of 737s that BA operates. I know for sure that they have the 737-400 but when on a flight to LHR from GVA the on board card stated that the fleet had the 737-500 and the 600?

Does anyone know the routes and the current status of the fleet of 737s, thanks

BA's 737's have a confused history. The 732's were bought to replace BAC1-11's and Tridents in the late 80's. Then they ordered the 734's based at LHR, and moved the 732's to LGW and the BA Regional stations at MAN and BHX. Maersk operated 735's on BA's behalf out of BHX, and BA Regional got 735's (I think they were leased) to operate MAN and LGW services after the 732's were retired and while they were waiting for the A319's to arrive (this was in the "downsizing" phase at BA, where they shifted to smaller aircraft to weed out the "backpackers"). GB Airways and Comair both operate 737's on BA's behalf, I think GB Airways had 733's and 734's. To the best of my knowledge BA never operated 736's.

BA has 27 737-400 5 737-300 and 10 737-500. All are based at LGW except a few -400's which are still based at LHR.

BA never operated the 736.

Both MAN+BHX also had a few 733s (with the pseudo-flagships being G-XMAN and G-XBHX). These 733s left the fleet - most ended up at Go (eg. G-OFRA, G-OMUC).

James

In addition to JGPH1A's bit, BA inherited Dan-Air's 737-300/400 fleet after the takeover in 1992 at a time when (AFAIK) the only 737's BA had based at LGW were -200's. The 3 -300's were disposed of fairly rapidly but the 9 -400's remained LGW based with some being operated by GB Airways. The LGW operation is now entirely 733/4/5 after the ex-Cityflyer fleet of RJ100's were dipersed to other bases.

Several flights at LGW are still operated by the B733. I browsed through MAN-LGW and FRA-LGW schedules a few days ago, and several flights where opb the B733.

Hi,

Slightly off topic, but I fly LGW-MAN soon on a BA 734 and was wandering which aircraft I would actually fly on providing that they use a regular plane for that flight.

My details are:

Sat 24th Jan 04

LGW-MAN BA2902 D: 7.00am

Sun 25th Jan 04

MAN-LGW BA2909 D: 4.40pm

Many thanks in advance,

Regards,

Justin  Big thumbs up

I flew LGW to Zagreb in August 1999 on a BA 737-400. At that time i think they were still operating the 737-200 also. It was great to fly an International flight on a 737- something i could never do here in Australia.
