Plane Spotting Hotel At SFO

Sun Nov 23, 2003 3:02 pm

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the name of a good hotel where you can plane spot at SFO. I'll be going there for a conference soon and have to overnight at SFO for an early flight back to LAX then Melb.

I haven't stayed there, but the Marriott looks like it might be about the best. With the right room, you should be able to see aircraft on approach or the ramp. There are several other large hotels on the bay south of the airport that look like they'd have good views of the approach as well.

I have stayed at the Best Western Grosnevor. From my room, I could see aircraft departing on the 1s, but they were distant. Binoculars helped.

The marriott SFO will give you excellent view of the landing runway. This runway is also used for the international heavy flights for take-off. This hotel will mostly let you see the airplane landing.

The Westin SFO will also give you an excellent view of the runways too. It is the closest hotel to the actual runways. From your hotel room you will be able to see the two runways used mainly for take-off for the domestic flights. You will also be able to see the other two runways, which are used for landings in the distance.

If I were to stay at one of the hotels, I probably would stay at the Marriott just because it is a hotel that has more floors and gives great unobstructed views. Plus it is connected to a park that is very popular for plane spotting.
At around midnight & 1am you will be able to see CX, CI, BR, SQ, etc, all taking off for Asia.
Make sure you get a room on the east side of the hotel.  Smile

Enjoy

I stayed at the Westin. Its brilliant for watching the domestic flights take off as they are basically right in front of you, but it blocks out part of the landing/international runways, not much though. Marriott or Westin

Thanks, guys. Will book either the westin or marriot. Would rather go westin, as i'm a starwood member but i'm more interested in seeing the long hauls, so i might just book the marriot instead as it seems to have better views?
