DL And CO Using 772 To AMS.

Mon Nov 24, 2003 10:02 am

Last year CO only flew 762's to Amsterdam and Delta only flew in 763's. Now they both operate 772's there as I can see on recent A.net photos. Thats a pretty big jump in capacity and neither of these airlines have many 777's.
And besides its now low season in Europe.

Obviously demand is up by a lot, does anyone know why??

I would guess its all about code-sharing and hubs.......

KLM and CO have a deal.
KLM and AF have a deal.
DL and AF have a deal.
DL and CO have a deal.
AF and CO used to have a deal, and may have a new deal.
Nothing yet between KL and DL, but coming soon.

This is the new SKYTEAM, but nothing is yet official.

With all of these relationships going on, and with all of the connection possibities via AMS, I assume the airlines increased capacity into AMS for transit pax and in anticipation of the expanded SKYTEAM partnerships.

The CO AMS flight is also the last europe flight to leave EWR so any pax that were bumped get on that flight then fly KLM to their origional destination. Yes, the KLM deal is wht they fly 777s to AMS. It is also why CO flies IAH-AMS.

Not true, when the flight was upgraded from the B764 to the B777, the departure time was pushed back three hours earlier.

And DL is adding CVGAMS w/ a 763ER in 6 months.

Yes, but ATL-AMS will be downgraded to a B763 at the same time... the B777 will be needed on ATL-NRT...

during peak travel periods you will find 2 of our 777 in AMS. Rumor has it to CLE-AMS flying the 75B. This would be great!!

Its mainly due to cargo would be my guess. AMS is the premier trading post of Europe and most of the world.

CO EWR-AMS now departs EWR around 7pm, but by spring 2004, they will fly this route at 10pm once again.
