When Is The New Tel Aviv Terminal Due To Open?

Tue Nov 25, 2003 8:32 am

I was in Tel Aviv lately and saw the almost finished new terminal at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv! When will it open? Is the old terminal going to be closed?

3 out of the 5 piers of the new terminal are scheduled to open in the summer of 2004 (finally). AFAIK, all international traffic will then go through the new terminal (T3). The current international terminal (T1) will serve domestic traffic. T2 and T4 will no longer be necessary and are likely to be demolished.

Oh really? This is very interested about TLV airport and will be no longer use with their terminal 2 & 4. What about El Al will not able to move either, right? What are you think will have more international flight out of TLV anytime soon? We will able flying to TLV for next year of May 2004. Well, talk ya later!  Smile

According to Airliner World from October of this year, dry runs are going to take place in February and the terminal will open to traffic in June of '04. If you're going to TLV in May, it looks like you're going to barely miss the brand new terminal. On the other hand, you will be one of the last people to enjoy the old school T1, getting bussed around the aprons to your aircraft and all that fun stuff.  Smile I guess El Al will have almost no presence in T1, as its domestic services are very limited.

BTW, T4 is a temporary building put in place to support a projected surge in travel during the millenium celebrations.

The chances that T3 will be open in June 04 are very low. Since there are many problems with workers in the Israeli Airport Authority (Academic Union), the work inside the terminal advance very slowly if it advance.

When I was in Israel last September, it was announced that the new terminal would open in June 2004.....And since its train station was scheduled to open already in March, the big question in the newspapers was wether to organize a bus service between the current terminal and the train station for that period......

Is the train station still scheduled for March 2004...? It would be so convenient...

The train is still scheduled for March 2004. They are laying the tracks these days and I believe they will be ready on schedule.
I also heard about the plan to take passengers from the station to T1 and T2 by buses for 3 months but I don’t think it will happen if T3 won’t open on June (and I don’t believe it will).
