AAirpass

Fri Nov 28, 2003 4:42 am

I was just clicking around American's website checking to see about a flight for a friend when I came across the AAirpass. I was wondering if anyone knew anything more about this? It seems like a fairly expensive way to purchase prepaid air travel. I think the price for 2 years started out at $25,000.00. It had mentioned that you get 5,000 miles annually for that, but that didn't seem right because you could wipe that out almost in a r/t say...LAX-JFK, it did say in any class though. But I think it would be better to buy a F Class ticket....anyone out there every use AAirpass, or know anything about the miles you do get? http://www.AAirpass.com

Actually....
I believe it is $25,500 for a two-year plan, and you get 25,000 miles each year in your account. You may purchase additional blocks of 5000 miles for about $2600.

You can get a five-year plan for about $65,000 with 25,000 miles added to your account each year.

It is actually cheaper than buying full fare tickets all of the time.
Plus, with AAirpass there are VIP benefits.... elite security lines, Admirals Club memberships, usage of all premium check-in and service lines, free alcohol on board the aircraft no matter what class, free inflight entertainment, special phone line, etc.

I seem to remember back in the late 70's, before AAdvantage, that you could buy a coach LIFE-TIME AAirpass for US$25K and a first-class LIFE-TIME AAirpass for US$40K! I don't remember seeing anything about mileage limits, but that may have been in the small print. Can you imagine having one of those today!?!
