Another Malaysia Airlines Plane Sabotaged?

Sat Nov 29, 2003 5:20 pm

Malaysia Airlines has reported another aircraft with broken cables on board and is investigating whether this was an act of sabotage.

Another plane was sabotaged some weeks ago heading for PER in KUL.

"I have received a preliminary report from Malaysia Airlines. We are not certain if the cable was broken due to wear and tear or deliberately cut. We are certainly concerned," said Malaysian Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy.

A source close to the investigation told AFP that the fault was discovered on a pre-flight check.

Sad but indeed true. Let's hope we find out more but this is merely a speculation at the moment, but who knows it might have some truth in it.

Who is behind all this? Isn't there some way to go back and check maintenance records to see who exactly had access to the cables and take it from there? You would think so.

Who would do something like this? What kind of maniac agenda would you need to have to endanger the lives of crews and passengers with reckless actions such as these?

I hope they catch this/these idiot(s) and put them behind bars for a long time...

Leskova....are you living in a post or pre-sept 11 world? Nothing should surprise us these days about what idiots are willing to do.

No, Qantasclub, I'm not living in a pre-September 11 world - although I wish I was - but somehow I don't see this as the work of terrorists (I'm using the word terrorists in the "traditional" sense - I see the people that have done this as nothing but terrorists): no proclamation of an agenda, no letters claiming responsibility, nothing... although I have to admit that I haven't heard what came out of the questioning of the suspects in the first sabotage.

To me this somehow sounds more like someone trying to get money out of MH - plain blackmail - than anything else...

As I've said, if anything has been learnt from the questioning of the suspects that suggests that it was something else, then I haven't heard of it yet...

And, Qantasclub, just as a personal opinion: even in a post-September 11 era, I do think that it is quite normal to be surprised at whatever new tactics terrorists come up...

Do you, for example, really expect the maintenance records to really yield the name of the person responsible for this act? In that point, I could have just as well asked "Are you living in a world where all criminals are illiterate and plain dumb?"!

Other than this one, I usually agree with most of the posts that you put on the threads on a.net...

I agree that terrorists are not the most likely suspects here; there are much more likely carriers that would be targets, and MH is the national carrier of a muslim country that has been quite vocal against the US.
Maybe a disgruntled employee with mental illness? Not sure, but I guess what I meant to say is, for me, anyway, after seeing and experiencing the shock of fully loaded passenger planes flying into towers, nothing surprises me these days. Certainly no offense intended!
cheers

Just noticed there is a separate thread also on security at KLIA - not very comforting is it ! Like it or not, a serious review of security procedures both by MH and Malaysia Airports is called for. Perhaps an assessment of the level of professionalism and discarding the 'denial' mentality would be a start.

"..... and MH is the national carrier of a muslim country that has been quite vocal against the US" - unfortunately that does not preclude MH from being targetted. Furthermore, not all acts of terrorism have been perpetrated by 'muslims' against 'pro-US' entities. The reverse scenario is quite possible too, very unfortunately.
(For the record, I have no wish to initiate a 'pro-US' vs 'muslim community' debate on this forum !)

Just trying to express dismay at this sorry turn of events. Let us not let things deteriorate further and learn from this (remember the fires back at Subang ?)
