What's Up With DL In SLC?

Tue Dec 02, 2003 4:47 am

Noticed that after the 1st of the year, DL will be replacing a large number of mainline DL service with Skywest??? A number of flights that are of interest to me (SLC-SEA/PDX/GEG) have lost capacity or are going to the CRJ's!!!

757 have been replaced with M90 and 738's. Or mainline flights replaced with Skywest service using CRJ's!!!

Any help please???
You mad Bro???

757s either went to Song, or replacing those that did. Domestic 763ERs converted to int'l to replace M11s. 763As moved in to replace 763ERs.

Everything else moved up a notch to replace 757/767s that have left SLC.

The interesting thing is that these routes are going to SkyWest, which is not owned by Delta. Its other big regional carriers, Comair and ASA, are at least partially owned by Delta (please correct me if I'm wrong). Since they are flying under the Delta Connection banner, I'm not sure if Delta will lose much revenue from this, but it's still an interesting development.

Doesn't DL have two contracts with Skywest such that some of the routes are paid a flat fee while others are priced based on pax - meaning that DL pays the same rate whether there are 2 people or 50 people on the jet for some routes while assuming all risk on others?

Look for Delta Airlines... Salt Lake City.... to mirror... Delta Airlines... DFW...

Sorry,

It is just a sign of the times.. Delta Airlines has choosen to de-bunk Salt Lake City and Dallas/Ft.Worth... Unfortunately, the only one that will loose will be the city of Salt Lake itself...

Cities that have been effected-

Fresno
Las Vegas
Oakland
Ontario
Palm Springs
Phoenix
Portland
Reno
Sacramento
San Francisco
San Jose
Seattle
Spokane
Tucson

Uuhhh, LHR001...

LAS is all mainline
SMF is all mainline, sans one daily CRJ.
SFO has 2 early CRJs, the remaining 5 are mainline.
SEA is all mainline.

and it's affected

and its 'lose' not 'loose' in the context.

Actually Mlsrar, I'd double-check your information.

SEA is all mainline.

Starting in January, SEA-SLC will drop from 6x to 4x daily. 767's & 757's will no longer fly this route. It will go to 2x 737's (733 & 738), an MD-90, and a Skywest CRJ-200.

So for now you're techincally right, but beginning in January, SEA will be getting DL Connection/Skywest service for at least one its flights. When you look at the overall drop in capacity (loss of the 752 & 763), SEA could end up getting perhaps only two-thirds (2/3) of the number of seats to SLC that it has now.

Actually, Mlsrar, sans means "without" not "except for"
DL will be all mainline SLC-SMF EXCEPT FOR one CRJ

MIsrar,

Just so you are aware- this is the following schedule that has been put in place... a random date February 01, 2004!

LAS-SLC

737-300
MD-90
757-200
737-300
MD-90

(Yes, this route has been effected.... The 767's have been pulled and the 737-300 and MD-90 are in the place of ex 757 and 767 aircraft)

SFO-SLC

737-300
CRJ
MD-90
737-300
737-300
737-800

(Yes, this route has been effected.... The 757 and 767 have been pulled and there is even CRJ service in place of a normal 737 aircraft)

SMF-SLC

737-800
737-800
737-800
CRJ

(Yes, this route has been effected... The 757 routing has completely ceased and the 737-800 and CRJ are in place of MD-90)

SEA-SLC

MD-90
737-800
737-800
CRJ

(Yes, this route has been effected... The 757, and 767 flying has completely stopped. In addition the frequency of flights has dropped)

Furthermore... We are here to contribute something to the airline industry! Not to bash members!

Regards.

Also, don't forget the Pasco/Richland/Kennewick area (PSC) ,they are losing their 2 737s for more CRJs. And, ComAir does some DL service from SLC to SBA,HLN,RNO,and STL if I'm not mistaken. Plus all the Montana flights will be Connection service, except some to BZN. But at least they are getting more frequency, which I hear most people prefer, anyway.

Does DL keep flying route SLC-HNL next year? Why the earth downsizing hub in the west/NW system? Delta should cut some fares better so it could bring more people flying through west or northwest.

do not forget who now is going to be CEO..... the former CEO of Western, which is the whole reason DL has a SLC hub in the first place. This topic will get interesting.

my question is; how come DL doesn't do more SLC-east coast routes. For example.... to get from FLL-Reno, you have to go through MCO,ATL,or CVG as well as SLC.

I'd like to see... at least with Song
SLC-FLL
SLC-TPA
increased SLC-MCO
SLC-JFK
SLC-DTW
SLC-BOS
SLC-all 3 Washington DC airports.
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

I checked Delta website. HNL-SLC is still running in March 2004. Delta is not using 767-400 SLC-ATL in March 2004 anymore. SLC-MCO will be 2x B737-800 no longer use 757. It must be a little disapointing downsizing.

Both San Antonio and Austin lose nonstop service to Salt Lake effective January 7.

This is an interesting topic especially since SLC is the linchpin of SkyTeam west to west traffic. I mean if you want to take SkyTeam from Seattle to Phoenix, DL through SLC is it.

When NW and CO join SkyTeam, SLC will be similarly important for SkyTeam west to west traffic.

Why didn't SLC try and grab KE when they left Denver to leverage the feed? Why doesn't SLC have CDG service, look at MEM at least they have AMS service?

DCAYOW, that point about MEM-AMS has been brought up several times and the fact of the matter is that DL just isn't interested in canibalizing CVG's feed. Those new CVG-FCO, CVG-AMS, (existing) CVG-LGW, CVG-CDG, and CVG-FRA count on A TON of feed (CVG's O/D is very bad); some of those pax could come from SEA, PDX, LAX, SAN, SMF, ABQ, DEN, COS, SFO, SNA, LAS you name it, and if there was a SLC-CDG it would thus take away pax from it because the pax from the cities listed above would typically go through SLC instead of CVG. Since they only have 2 other hubs to go through, it will usually be CVG instead of ATL because that is DL's strategy. ATL has about enough O/D to justify most of its flights anyways. Big thumbs up
Addressing the KE question, my guess is that they are content with DFW and ATLBig thumbs up

Apparently Delta (according to a supervisor at MSY) is considering re-instating SLC-MSY service, which was cancelled in 2001. This is interesting to note: When Delta cancelled the route, it was running twice daily, with one 757 and one 72S. Demand is not a question on the route, and it would be a great addition for us to have.

Flight 2076 was especially popular....SLC-MSY-TPA with 727-200 aircraft.
