Not sure how many of you care, but hey my grandmas family was from Burma who walked all the way to India as refugee when Japanese invaded the country during WW II. So good to know now there will be an air link between the two countries.
Myanmar carrier to launch flights to HK, India
(YANGON, Myanmar) Myanmar's national airline will start twice-weekly flights to Hong Kong next month and plans to open a route to New Delhi early next year, a semiofficial newspaper reported.
Myanmar Airways International will fly to Hong Kong on Mondays and Fridays starting Dec 12, The Myanmar Times weekly newspaper reported, quoting the company's managing director, Gerard de Vaz.
Hong Kong will be the carrier's fourth international destination after Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, it said.
'Hong Kong is one of the key markets in the Asia region, being an important hub for both business and leisure travellers. It is also an important gateway for us to the China market,' he said.
The report said the airline will offer promotional round-trip tickets on its inaugural Hong Kong flight for US$99.
Mr De Vaz said the flag carrier plans to launch its New Delhi service in February in line with its 'strategy of adding new and economically viable destinations to its schedule'.
Myanmar Airways International is a joint venture between the Ministry of Transport and a Singapore-based carrier, Region Air. It was established as a joint venture with Highsonic Enterprise of Singapore in 1993, but the company withdrew in 1998.
