Aeromar's 747 Operation

Wed Dec 03, 2003 10:19 pm

Does anyone know what happened with the whole Aeromar (Dominican Republic) 747 operation? I know they operated at least one flight to Madrid and that's the last I heard. There has got to be a good story behind this....

I understand Aeromar is getting another 747, the time from Air Atlanta, for the peak winter holiday. However, is reporting that they are not operating and, instead, are putting passengers on Air Santo Domingo.

If I remember correctly, the aircraft never got the airworthiness certificate and the plans to operate the aircraft was withdrawn.

Airplane - a 747-238 was formerly operated by Aerolineas Argentinas.
Had been acquired by Aeromar through Pegasus Leasing.
It was to be managed by a team from Belgiun and the Netherlands.
I got sent to act as chief pilot for a period of 2 months.
We had a team of pilots from Argentina, and local flight attendants.
The airplane absolutely had a valid airworthiness certificate.
The airline, Aeromar, had not obtained traffic rights from Spain.
Many of the Aeromar documents were faulty. and failed to pay the lease.
The aircraft returned from Madrid to Punta Cana, then Miami, then Opa Locka.
Aeromar attempted to rectify the situation, then SEP 11 arrived...
The operation stopped, airplane got taken back by Pegasus.
It later ended up in Sweden.
