Why No Direct Flights Between India And Australia?

Sat Dec 06, 2003 1:49 am

On a recent trip to Australia, I noticed that there are more Indians there than anywhere else I've seen outside of India/US/UK/Canada. I wonder why there are no direct flights by AI or QANTAS between India and Australia. Surely, a flight to Sydney from Chennai would be extremely popular.
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

QF used to operate a daily B767-300 to BOM thru SIN but for some reason stopped the service even though it was making money...maybe when more of the A330-300s come into service QF may restart the route.

A very simple reason - not enough passengers to support the route round the year, though the situation is now fast changing. I anticipate QF to be back in India by next winter if not earlier.

Well with AI in the process of ordering A 343s or B 772ERs, it might not be so far away that we may see a nonstop DEL-BOM-SYD/MEL flight being operated by AI.

Yes as India now has the largest middle-class population in the world and therefore the largest pool of disposable income, it is surprising, to say the least, that at least one of the two nations' flag carriers is not flying between Mumbai and Sydney. Auckland would be a worthwhile add-on too.
