Sat Dec 06, 2003 11:39 am

The Prime Minister of Lebanon, Rafik Hariri owns a number of aircraft which also other government officials use.

Below is his 727:

Below is his new 737-700BBJ:

He has a couple of Gulfstreams also:

Here is his personal 777-200ER which he only uses and no one else:

Saudi Arabia made him rich. He completed High School and only a little bit of college. Afterwards, he went to Saudi Arabia and became a teacher. He some how started a contracter business and he became acquainted with King Fahad who at that time was just a prince. He was contracted to build a hotel in Taif and built it in a record time and as a result, he became very popular. That's when he started rising and he started several companies that do many things.

Went back to his home country, a rich man, a politician, and a genius.

He's a billionaire now.

Japan has modified 747-400s. Britain charters planes (usually from British Airways). Several European countries use A310s. Some of Qatars' planes are specifically for VIP flights.

The Australian prime minister uses a combination of different planes- all Air Force. Sometimes he goes in a 707, sometimes a Falcon 900 and he recently started using a 737BBJ.

Both the Presidents of Argentina and Mexico use VIP 757s. The Emir of Kuwait has a couple of planes, one of which is a 747-400. And the Venezuelan President likes his VIP transport classic... a 707 which also serves as a tanker.

Why does the British gov't charter commercial A/C? They miss out on the amenities that you have in your own A/C. Do they think they are not needed? Does BA keep a few planes charter ready with meeting rooms, showers, etc?

Old DC8-72 are still in service, but they are mostly used to carry Military troops.

The A313 can be configured for V.I.P transport (The President, Ministers; etc...) or troops.

In a near-tragic twist of fate... F-BTSC almost destroyed the 744 carrying the French President during its doomed takeoff. In fact, this picture was taken from that same 744. Freaky really.

Brazil's aircraft used by president on International travels is like a joke: an old, dirty, noise 707-300... The ones who travel with president are always joking about this airplane (they say it's scary, old....).
The plane is called "Sucatão", which means "Big Scrap".

ConcordeBoy - on that, I recall reading in late 2000 that it was thought F-BTSC may have rotated at an earlier speed, in order to avoid hitting president Chirac's aircraft. The is resulted in the aircraft travelling at a lower speed through the air, and eventually led to the loss of control, and the crash. I guess it is all academic as to whether the Concorde would have survived if it had have been travelling faster...

Ireland has an ageing GIV of the Irish Air Corps (254) used for Presidential and ministerial transport, mostly in connection with EU membership. Should be more widely visible in 2004.

A tender process to replace it (with a BBJ? Airbus?) was abandoned earlier this year, due to supposed lack of money, as was plans to replace the seriously ancient helicopter component of the IAC.

An additional Citation is expected for delivery in advance of the Irish EU Presidency commencing 1 January.

Whilst the UK Prime Minister does use chartered BA aircraft sometimes, the RAF also provides a VC10 for him and other senior government ministers to use on occasion. The Royal family ususally use aircraft from the Royal Flight (a wing of the RAF) for short trips using BAe 146s. Interestingly, a few years ago the Queen travelled to New Zealand on a commercial flight for the first time (ANZ 744). She travelled in first class, paid for by the NZ government, and had the whole cabin to herself!

The Sultan of Brunei use to have more planes then a airline and with his brother Prince Jefri there were evern more. It's all run under the name off Sultans Flight.

He has a Boeing B747-400, A340-200, B767-200, use to have a few Gulf Streams, 2 Blackhawk helicopters and a Sikorksy S76. Then Prince Jefri had a Boeing B747SP, A340-200, A310-300 and the odd gulfstream as well!!! To top it all off they have two massive hangers with enough room to fit a 747, A340 and a 767 side by side! But sadly most aircraft have now dissapeared, as the old sultan had to sell a few toys after his brother Prince Jefri left the country in a big hole with his problems.

The British royal family as well as the Prime Minister and cabinet members use a BAe146 or HS125 for domestic or European flights.
For long-haul flights BA planes are chartered.

Malaysia currently has

M53-01 B737-7H6/BBJ
M48-02 Bombardier Global Express
M37-01 Dassault Falcon 900
M28-01 Fokker 28

In the past:
M48-01 Bombardier Global Express
M47-01 Bombardier Challenger 600 (CRJ)

9M-ABC is Petronas' G-IV-SP but is sometimes providing services for the government. Our former PM was flown to Spain for a 2 week holiday on this a/c.

Some other state sultans have their own private jets too. 9M-ISJ is a G-IV belonging to the sultan of Johor.

I always loved the 'King Hussein One' for its striking colours. There was one very striking scene where it overflew Jerusalem with the King himself on the yoke. Saw a report about it once and he stated the historic meaning of the overflight over the ATC. A true aviation buff.
What happened with it after his death? I heard it was sold just like all his horses? Anybody know the whereabouts?

I'm surprised that the British Prime Minister and the Royal family charter commercial aircraft. Surely it would make better sense for them to have their own aircraft, along the line of Air Force One.

I know that for a long time, the British Prime Minister used a Vickers VC-10 from the RAF and that there were a fleet of them for government use by cabinet-level officials. I know because Margaret Thatcher referred to the VC-10 in her memoirs.

My advice to HM Queen Elizabeth and Tony Blair: Bite the bullet and buy a couple of Boeing 747s. It will increase Britain's prestige abroad.
