Looks as though HP is oging to do more hub bypass operations & hit the point to point market, presumably causing B6 more headaches, as this article points out.
America West sees growth in new routes
America West Airlines plans to grow 10 percent next year, mostly by adding flights that do not use its hubs in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Airline executives Thursday said they expect 60 percent of next year's growth will come from new low-fare point-to-point service and hope to fly to the West Coast from Washington, D.C. America West is already flying new nonstop transcontinental service to Los Angeles from New York and Boston, and will fly from both of those cities to San Francisco soon.
Hawaiian Airlines, a codeshare partner of America West, currently interchanges passengers with the mainland discount carrier at Phoenix and Las Vegas, but also flies to Hawaii from both Los Angeles and San Francisco. This means vacationers bound for Hawaii from key U.S. East population centers could make the journey in two hopes, one of them on a cut-rate carrier.
"We think we have lots of opportunities," America West VP Scott Kirby said Thursday.
America West continues to lobby for more flight slot availability at National and New York's Laguardia airports. Congress has approved more West Coast flights at Washington Reagan National and America West has applied for those spaces.
