To piggy back on what PER744 said, with all the turbulence and the traveling public banging their carryon luggage into them, I would doubt large LCD
screens will be onboard anytime too soon. (Too expensive to replace and repair)
Also, in my millions of miles of flying, customers would rather take a PTV over a large screen in the front of the cabin, any day. It's terrible to have to try to sleep while lots of light is bouncing around the cabin due to the big screen projections.
When I flew ANA they had a "belly camera" display at the front of every cabin in addtion to PVOD and it was annoying to have all these images all at once. It's nice to be able to switch off your PTV when you want to sleep, but with the big screen there's no doing that!
