What Plane Did You Fly For The 1st Time This Year?

Sun Dec 07, 2003 1:47 am

Got the idea for this topic from the "What Aircraft Type Have You Flown Most This Year?" thread. So thanks DeltaMD11 Big thumbs up

So out of all your flights this year, which aircraft type/series did you fly on for the first time?

For me this year, the only new plane I've added to "the list" is the 757-300. Flight was on Continental from IAH to MCO back in June. Flown the -200 many times, but so far this is my first and only -300 flight.

The ATR-42 and -72. I know they are a very frequent regional aircraft type, but until this year, the type has somewhat escaped by travel plans.

BTW- I wasn't very impressed. IMO the ATR is a cheap copy of the "Rolls Royce" of the regional turboprops, the Fokker F-50.

Pl4nekr4zy,
Haha, good topic as well. Well, I got to fly on the A330-200 for the first time this year, and to say the least I was really impressed. Flew her JFK-GVA, and ZRH-JFK. The aircraft lacks an "umph" in terms of power in my experience, but she has enough to get the job done.

I just noticed, I've been an a.net forum member for exactly one year to-the-day, today. That went by quickly.

This year was a great year for me and flight. I am going to be attending Embry-Riddle in the Fall of 2004. I was recently accepted. I wanted to go to many places before my College career would start. I will be studying to become a Commercial Airline Pilot but anyway ...
I flew these A/C for the first time on these routes this year:
LGA-JFK 738
IAH-HNL 764ER
IAH-LGA 735
ISP-PHL Dash 8
PHL-CMH 733
CMH-PHL A321
JFK-LHR 777
LHR-JFK 744
This adds to my list of A/C flown on ,
762, 763, MD-80,3,8, MD-90, L-1011, 757, 73G, 717 and DC9-10,30

This year I got the A300B4 (was hoping for the -B2, because it would have been more logical to get the -B2 before the B4, now the -B4 will be first) with JAS and the 747-300SR (JA8173) with JAL - almost unique among 747s.

Next year, I'm hoping to get a flight on the A340-600 and 717, among others, possibly the MD87 as well.

Sun Dec 07, 2003 2:37 am

A very busy flying year for me allowing me to a few gaps. Looking back quite surprised I've managed to avoid the following for so long but these are my firsts for this year:

Dash 8 Q400 BE BHX-GLA
BAe 146 BE BHX-IOM
A300-600R LH LHR-FRA
A319 4U EDI-CGN
B737-400 FR DUB-BHX (Islandsflug aircraft)
B737-800 FR STN-HHN

Firsts already booked for next year:

B767-400 CO MAN-EWR
A330-300 NW AMS-DTW
DC9 NW DTW-ORD

This just about completes my set of Airbus / Boeing aircraft - just the A310, A340 and 717, 777 to go. Was going to fly AA 777 LHR-BOS but a late change and decided to go to Chicago instead on KLM/NW. Will probably make it later in the year though on AA777 or VS340 so that'll be another ticked off.

US Air ERJ 145 and US Air A321

ERJ - LGA-BUF
A321 - PIT-CLT

ERJ was nice having the aisle/window seat, a very rare thing. The A321, nothing special. I've now been on the 319 and 321, but never the 320.

The year saw my first time on an HP Express (Mesa Airlines) CRJ-200, the 50-pax jet that took me DSM-PHX-SBP (San Luis Obispo, CA) and back. Nice planes, but for someone 6'2", with legs that go with that height, it was a little cramped on the DSM-PHX leg (no pun intended), a three-hour haul. It was perfect for PHX-SBP (about an hour). I'd flown a number of larger craft, and other regionals, but never a CRJ.

Dornier 328 on USAirways Express (operated by PSA) from CAE to PHL. Ended up having to divert to PIT because the weather radar died and PHL wouldn't let us land (understandable considering this was the day Hurricane Isabel was tearing up the East Coast).

The aircraft was a shambles on the interior, seats ripped, upholstery pulled off the bulkheads, stained carpeting...take off was delayed about 30 minutes while they fixed an undisclosed mechanical problem. Not exactly confidence-inspiring while you're flying through part of a hurricane.

I have been able to add....

ERJ-135 EYW-MCO (Chautauqua/DL connection)
-This was my first experience on an Embraer RJ, although I had flown on the Brasilia before. Also got to fly the ERJ-135 on the return to Key West, and must say that it (as in the ERJ-135/145 family) is my favorite of the regional jets. I like the 1x2 interior and the big windows. It was a very comfortable little plane and a lot of fun to fly on.

CRJ-700 ATL-BUF (Comair/DL Connection)
-I was very impressed with this aircraft as well, and it is a big improvement over the CRJ-100/200. While I do like the 50 seater, the-700 definitely was nicer. The seats seemed roomier and larger, the interior was brighter, and the windows are higher up, which allowed me to not have to crane my neck for the hour and thirty minute flight.

A300-600 MIA-SJU (American)
-This aircraft was nice, especially the MRTC (RIP B757/A300 MRTC). The interior of this aircraft, at American at least, gave me the impression of a utilitarian transport, which, flying the high density routes to the Caribbean, I guess in reality that is what it is. But the flight was nice. I had a window seat right behind the wing, so I had fun watching the flaps.

Dornier 328-100 of Great Plains airlines - last weekend from OKC to BLV and back. I'd flown their 328 Jet but never the prop.

And the C-141 as I was a cargo courier coming back from Saudi once, flew 3 actually as we kept breaking.

Those are my only two this year. Had more last year with the L-1011, A320, CRJ, and C-5.

ORL,
Well, flying nothign but Delta for 20 years isn't such a bad thing in my opinion. This December will entail my first trip on an A321 (with US). Looking foreward to it. Fly Happy. Delta.

I finally got to fly an MD-11 this year! It was incredible. LX009 from ORD to ZRH. It was a fantastic flight on an awesome plane. It would also seem that I got to fly the MD-11 just in time....they're disappearing quickly.
