Air Jamaica Carry-on Policy

Mon Dec 08, 2003 5:38 am

I will be flying with Air Jamaica southbound on Dec. 21 and I was wondering about their carry-on policy. The website states one item, but unlike most airline websites, there is no mention of the so-called "personal item". I would like to take a carry-on plus a laptop in laptop bag with me, and wondering if they are going to allow that?

WE make the following annocement while the flight is being checked just about every 20 mins.

"Federal Law requires that each passenger be allowed one piece of carry on baggage, plus a personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop or SMALL backpack. All items you carry on board must fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment. If you are holding more that one carry on, please see the agent at the Air Jamaica counter now. Thank you for you coorporation and understanding."

We have to make that annoncement throughout the terminal while the flight is being checked in. THey haven't sent us a memo, stating that it is changed, so you should be fine.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, this is a reminder that you have boarded Air Jamiaica flight 093 to New York. On behalf every one here in the in the SpiceIsle we want to the thank you for including Air Jamaica in your travel plans. We now invite you sit back, relax and enjoy the lovebird service provided by our Inflight Crew. Once again. thank you for choosing Air Jamaica."

That was just a prelude of the good things to come when flying the lovebird. Have fun..

We flew them on the leg Port-au-Prince - Santo Domingo couple of weeks ago (ok, not a regular leg I admit, but a small plane) and we travelled ok with bag + laptop.

I flew Air Jamaica JFK-BGI-UVF and return with a rolling overnight bag, which I put in the overhead bins (there was plenty of space on the A320), and a smaller satchel, which I put under the seat in front of me. No problems either way...with the luggage, at least. We did have an annoying incident at BGI on the way home, where two other people held printed boarding passes for the same seat I did (making three of us total). The crew basically told me and the other unlucky passenger to "suck it up." Hopefully that was an isolated incident, though, and you will encounter more professional staff on your trip.
