Delta 737-300s How Much Longer

Mon Dec 08, 2003 6:10 am

How much longer will the 737-300s be in service with Delta?

I got lucky and was able to fly N303WA LAS-SLC last week, they sure are nice planes.

I'm not sure of DAL 733s, but COA has been parking 733 left and right.

Doubt DL would park them since they are bringing back the -200s from the desert.

Delta's 733's still have a long way to go. I've been saying all-along that we'll probably see a joint 732-733 replacement down the road (more than likely in the form of the 73G). So we'll see. But get out there and enjoy them! They are nice machines.

No, they haven't. CO has returned a small number of B733 whose leases have expired... but they haven't parked any. The only aircraft CO has massively parked is the MD-80.

Delta is moving the -300's to their northeast shuttle operation and moving the -800's that were doing the shuttle to mainline. I doubt the -300's will be gone anytime soon and a good indication of that is that Delta recently sold a number of -800's scheduled for delivery in 2005 to a third party.

Being that DL just started using the 733s on the BOS-LGA-DCA Shuttle (allowing some 738s to return to mailine services), I would think that DL plans to keep the 733s in the fleet for a while longer.....DL has also returned the 732s to mailine services (returning from Express services and I believe that some have been reactivated from desert storage) so both the 732 and 733 are likely to see several more years of service. Both the 732s and 733s fleets average about 15 to 20 years of age, and the 737s are very durable, thus, they have a lot of years left on them.

With DL tranferring 36 757s to SONG, with talk of more 757s (or possibly 738s) to be operated by SONG, and SONG opening new routes, the 732s and 733s are needed for the mainline fleet. It is unclear if DL will, at some point when finances improve, order a direct replacement for the 732 and 733 - it may be that larger next-generation regional jets will take over all services requiring an aircraft with about 100 seats.....time will tell.

Yeah.. I just flew N304WA (an old 733 that I think DL picked up from Western) last week from SEA-SLC. Don't worry, the 733's will be around for a while.

delta just transferred thirty something 737-200s from express to mainline and brought a few out of storage. delta's -200s are much younger than many others, as most of delta's -200s are circa the early 1980s.

before 9/11 and the recession, delta was slated to receive 50 737-700s for the express division to replace the -200s. now that times have changed, and the express wing is no longer, i doubt that delta will replace the -200s and -300s with anything outside what they currently operate. i'd look for more -800 orders, as well as increased usage of regional jets.

The 737-232's are from the mid 80's. I don't think you will see more expansion at the DCI carriers in the near future, as the people pushing that agenda are on their way out the door. Leo, don't let that door hit you on your way out.

Well, given that DL Connection is taking delivery of 45 RJs and ASA, Comair, and Skywest are fighting for them, I think you will see more RJs in the near future.
