TED Fleet

Wed Dec 10, 2003 5:33 am

According to the photo database, TED fleet only consists of one airplane, N495UA. Is it really true? If it is, what happens if it can't make the flight? Do they take a regular United airplane to replace it?

TED does not exist yet in terms of operation. 495UA still flies for United mainline, and will until TED officially launches in the 1Q of 2004.

That doesn't explain why it's painted in TED's livery

It's painted in TED's livery earlier than launch date for primarily two reasons:

1) Advertisement
2) So that way when the airline does officially commence operations, they will have some aircraft ready to go.

1 aircraft has been painted in TED livery for promotional purposes. it is in service, however, in UA mainline. i'd imagine more aircraft are being painted, and they may also spend some time in UA mainline service before all of the TED aircraft cabins must be reconfigured for the TED rollout.

C'mon people... Surely we can all figure this out, right? In order to have an entire fleet of planes in correct livery appear on the day of inception, they would have to either 1) have dozens of painted planes sitting around under large tarps so no one can see them, or 2)paint a large number of planes very fast the night before.

If Delta can't get their fleet repainted in 6 years, you are going to expect UAL is going to want to get started on the TED planes as soon as possible.

Ted was spotted in PVD today (inbound flt 1490, outbound 1121: 1030 arr, 1215 dep)! I like the livery, not sure about the concept, but the plane looks pretty good.
