I was on an Ansett flight to Cairns that was showing 'Meet Joe Black'. As Joe was hit by a car there was a loud 's#*t' from most of the passengers.

A F/A raced out of the galley to see what had happened expecting everyone to be looking at something on fire outside the aircraft, instead everyone was glued to the screen with some passengers crying.

She asked me what had happened, as it was the second sector on which she'd had this happen.

One on of my recent flights from IAH-LGW, I brought along a DVD of Billy Connolly (Scottish Comedian), and was literally laughing my head off. After about 20 min, I had to turn it off because my face hurt, my stomach hurt and I was struggling for breath. The man is halarious

Oh my gosh, it's so funny to walk through the cabin and see lots of people crying for what appears to be no reason! I think it's odd that airlines do often play sad movies... what sort of impression do customers leave the plane with?

At least they get a good cry out of it. Some feel better after crying...

I remember the summer of 2000, UA had two Kevin Costner movies on during the same month. I had many business men jokingly tell me that they were going to cry if we played another Costner movie! ha!

The debate continues... Starwood or Hyatt... which is better

yes this happened to me as well . . . but I was just a mere 6 years old.

I was flying with my family from Bangkok to Perth on a Thai DC-10, and it was the movie Cocoon that brought me to tears. Sure as hell cant remember why.
oh and I also threw up on that flight, obviously I wasnt in such a good state.

I thought airlines would rather have comedies playing rather sad movies. Keep customers happy.

WWell, I almost cried when AA showed "Autumn in New York" -- but it wasn't because Winona Ryder died. It was because the movie was so horrible.

There is a first time for everything:

On a DL flight across the pond in June I watched "Far from Heaven", starring Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore. I shed more than just a few tears, as the movie sadly reminded me of an American friend in a quite similar situation.

Watching that perfect suburbian setting - the immaculate facade, and the pain and desparation underneath the shiny surface really made my eyes water.

Happy flying to all of us

Wasn't any crying on this one but I thought it was funny. It was an Air India flight out of DEL. Some Bollywood film was showing and when the dancing and singing started, you could see everyone in the cabin swinging their arms about in unison like some choreographed act. Did I mention some passengers sang along? The flight attendant told me it was a common sight. It was hilarious!

Aviaction, chill out.

It was just a bit of light hearted humour, I appreciate that things are slightly more "clinical" where you come from but doesn't give you en excuse to get into a hissy fit and start personally criticising me.

If you can't stand the heat .........

It was my sense of humour ... I apologize if it appeared rude and as a personal criticism. That was definitely not my intention. And yes, I did notice the smily at the end of your message. So, don't get mad.

Aviaction,

No apology needed really, I appreciate that you didn't mean any harm I was just getting a bit defensive as I tend to do.

And I must admit that being a Scotsman my humour can sometimes appear a bit dry and subtle (or not so subtle in some cases).

Hmmm.

Back in March 2002, I was watching "My Life as a House" as a FC upgrade on an America West 757-200 going BWI-PHX. The ending caught me off guard. But I wasn't the only one tearing up.

I laughed a little too loudly watching Miss Congeniality on NWA DTW-NRT. Woke the slumbering pax next to me.

Another flight fm SYD-SIN on a QF 744, they were screening Mickey Blue Eyes and obviously the entire cabin was glued to that movie. Everyone burst out laughing when Hugh Grant attempted to speak in a "Noo Yawk" accented English, trying to be a mafia man aka "Mickey Blue Eyes" from Kansas.

I cried when watching The Life of David Gale on a BA 744 fm SIN-SYD. Very sad when Laura Linney killed herself to prove a point. And the exasperated Kate Winslet towards the end wailing at her failure to stop the execution of Kevin Spacey. Sob...

I'm sure you're aware that certain countries have reputations that can be exploited in a "humorous" sense.

As an example, myself and my fellow countrymen are known for our alleged excessive drinking, primitive language, questionable behavior with women and ability to start a fight in an empty room (or an airplane if it's full of Celtic supporters  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ) and as such we are often on the butt end of more than a few jokes, including many jokes about neanderthals/cavemen/dinosaurs etc.

In the case you mention I was simply making a sarcastic reference to the rather "military" reputation of the German nationals - but I assure you it was not meant to be insulting, merely a bit of "banter" as we call it in Scotland.

Gordon.

gordonsmall,
Your lack of Humor maybe the problem, Celtic supporters? Don't you mean English supporters?

I cant ever remember hearing jokes about Scotland in a way that was harmful to the people, never have I heard of them referred to as cavemen and such, I have heard you guys like your sheep? That is all I have heard.

I can't say I have ever seen a movie that made me cry...certainly not crap like Sweet November or Shakespeare in Love.

I find some Westerns and war movies to be emotionally moving...but none have brought me to tears. Maybe if the person sitting next to me is cutting onions...that's about the only excuse I can think of.

"Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan" on a World Airways DC-10 LGW-BWI, in Dec 82 (I think). Back when they had scheduled service.

The young Army soldier next to me was choking up as well. "Oh man, I think something got in my eye".

I think it was years ago (I was a teenager) when UA showed Forrest Gump on a 767 from JFK-SFO.

Also, I remember one time seeing Apollo 13 on a UA 757 from SFO-IAH (not quite the movie I wanted to see on a plane when I was still scared of flying)  Smile

Flying from SYD-SFO on UAL, watching the "Wedding Singer" was just too much. The passenger next to me as well as myself were laughing so much the F/A had to ask us to settle down. It was too much, of course a few drinks helped but that was funny!

SFO-HNL, they were showing a dunk contest with athletes from different sports trying to dunk a basketball. A long jumper (cannot remember his name) from the USA was attempting a dunk. He started his dribble and run from the other end of the court and jumped from the free throw line, did a pump and jammed it with two hands, but then he held onto the rim for a moment too long and did a flip from the rim. It was absolutley amazing to view this, well the cabin I was in just went crazy. We all made sounds when we saw this wild event on the screen. I swear we all said at the sametime some form of "Wow", "Ouch", of even "S**T"
