Thu Dec 11, 2003 3:56 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know the stats of Saudia L-1011s?
Would be interested to know if they are still around
and where.
Thanks,

A while ago they were talking about putting one in a museum and making it a restaurant.

There is another one that is for VIP use.

I don't know about the others.

The L1011-200's, which were in regular airline use, are parked AFAIK.

There are also two L1011-500, which have never seen airline use, which are operated by the VIP division and are still active.

All the Saudi Arabian L1011-200s (15) are parked (stored) at Taif (OETF). No decision on their faith yet.

One L1011-500 is used by the Royal Flights wing of SV.

The Royal Family comes to GVA very often during the summers. They use the L1011. Nice to see it land over the lake.

Hi HZ-AKA,

Weren't there 17 L1011-200 in SV's service?

And AFAIK, there are now two L1011-500's in the VIP fleet:

BTW - if you're into TriStars (like me) you'd probably enjoy this little site about SV's stored L1011's.

I agree with you that there were 17 in service.

One was destroyed in the famous Riyadh Airport incident. The second might be sold!

The RUH disaster was actually one of the worst incidents in civil aviation until that year:

Why does the Saudi Royal Family have such a large variety of planes and why do they keep flying the old birds? Someone in that family must be a true airplane fan so that he knows to keep classics like the SP and TriStar flying  Big grin
How many planes do they have in total?
Let me try and count:

L1011:
HZ-HM5
HZ-HM6

B727-21:
HZ-OCV

MD-11:
HZ-AFA1
HZ-HM7

B743:
HZ-HM1A

B74SP:
HZ-AIF
HZ-AIJ

B757:
HZ-HMED

Anything else? That's a nice collection, even an old 727...
9 planes entirely to their disposal, that's neat! Must be a really big family. To complete the collection of classics maybe they should get a 707.
Hope they keep the TriStars flying for a while  Smile

TriStar500, I just had a look at the site, very nice details.
Shall we buy them all and start a TriStar operation out of FRA?  Big thumbs up
I wonder how much they want for one, lol.

The Royal family is very large, about 6000- 8000 members. But only the highest ranked members use the fleet. Other members fly on regular SV flights.

In summer, since many members travel for vacation, a number of SV 777s are borrowed by the Royal Flight wing to cover for shortage.

In addition to the list provided by PanAmerican, there are a couple of other aircrafts not with SV livery. Including, One A342, a couple of BBJs.

PanAmerican,

Maybe we should ask the owners of VBird, they seem to have a couple of millions to burn... Big grin

What a great website for their L-1011's. I wish I was rich so I could buy a couple of their L-1011's. I'd use them to charter people to the Carribean in the winter and Europe in the summer.

PanAmerican,

Don't forget the 747SP: HZ-HM1B! It hasn't been featured in the database though for a while unfortunately. Their L-1011 HZ-HM5 was also the 250th and last Tristar built. I must admit, I hope they keep those classics for a long time to come! As far as the 707s are concerned, they had two flying around as late as Feb 2001 reg. HZ-HM2 and -HM3. I believe they have since been stored.

Hi Tristar500,
Thanks a lot for the info and the link.
real neat.
I am a big tristar fan. In fact I believe
it's the best wide body pax airliner ever built.

It's a great a idea to revive some old
tristar birds and fly them in their original
airline colors and service, what do you think?
BA, TAP, Delta, Air Canada and LTU
all come in mind.
R.Jordanian and Saudia would make great
options as well.

Best regards,

Advnaced
