New Feature On AA.com

Fri Dec 12, 2003 12:07 am

AA.com, the world's best airline web site, has issued a new feature when you search for flights. Ever since AA discontinued the MRTC format on some of its aircraft, you didn't really know if you were going to get MRTC or not. Now, however, when you search for flights, in the "aircraft type" column it has a "MRTC" symbol if your plane has more room.

Pretty convenient, I think -- if they're going to take it out, at least tell us the flights where we can get more room!

I don't think that will be much of a problem. A significant majority of AA's fleet is still MRTC, with only 757s and A300s being switched. Virtually all of these aircraft are used on low-yield leisure routes, such as LAS and Mexico. AA has so many MD-80s on hand, I suspect that getting a "LRTC" plane substitutied for a "MRTC" plane will be quite rare.

I am somewhat surprised at the way the site lets you check seat availability maps for upcoming flights without having to make reservations first. I had thought that airlines regarded that sort of information as confidential and limited access to it.

It would only be confidential if they listed names, but they dont.

Plus, the seat maps aren't accurate for determining flight loads. They are only accurate for checking which seats are available for pre-assignment. For example, the flight may show up as half-empty but actually be oversold; the "available" seats shown are ones that you can get pre-assigned. At the same time, a flight may look "full" when it actually is not; AA blocks some seats for elites and last-minute, high-fare travelers.

MRTC = "More Room Throughout Coach"

hence, some people on this board have referred to AA's 757s and A300s as "LRTC" for "Less Room Throughout Coach"

MRTC = More Room Throughout Coach

AA has been blasting the airwaves and newspapers with MRTC for a long time. Their marketing department would be sad to see your post.

Thanks for the update! I don't follow AA very much so I wasn't sure what it was.  Smile

'The world's best airline website' still doesn't offer online booking facilities to it's www.americanairlines.be website.

Already since more than a half year, I see the same message 'that it is coming before the end of the year'.

Anybody who knows when it will be available?

Nothing against Ssides or AA, but:

"AA.com, the world's best airline web site"

Is quite subjective and subject to discussion.

Just my opinion, guys ...

Regarding the Belgium site, it appears that you can't book tickets directly from any of AA's international sites. On the UK site, it simply re-routes you to AA.com, and all prices are listed in dollars. Don't know why the Belgium site doesn't do this, because you can easily book tickets originating in Belgium via AA.com.

Hey, with the dollar where it is, go ahead and book your fare in dollars -- could save you some cash!

honestly when i flew AA for the first time I was looking forward to the MRTC but then when I sat down, I didn't even realize that there was supposed to be more room throughout coach until I opened the magazine and saw it being advertised. Then I look alook around and I really did not notice any difference. Now I've flown on their 777's, 767's, 757's, MD-80s and F-100s and I think that the Fokker 100 has the most room throughout coach.
