TPA-MIA On FL Discontinued?

Fri Dec 12, 2003 2:05 pm

http://www.airtran.com/destinations/routemap/index.jsp

I noticed that a route link between TPA and MIA was not included in this map update. I also noticed that MIA will no longer receive the CRJ (as indicated by the black dot on MIA).

Furthermore, I did a reservation inquiry and found that there are no flights between TPA and MIA on late February 2004.

What happened?

The Airwis route between TPA and MIA was cancelled in order to use the CRJ's on other routes, one being the new BWI-DAY route.

Also because AA doesn't consider anyone coming into their MIA backyard too kindly.

That route takes up one CRJ for the entire day by itself. We only have ten and its been decided that the aircraft can be better utilized elsewhere. At the same time that route is discontinued, ATL-ICT goes all RJ. As for American, that's probably partially true. However, there's another backyard of theirs we're working our way into right now....DFW.

A nice spin on the truth... come on, let's be reasonable, if the route was making money, do you think FL would've dropped it? FL's presence on the route made the cheapest TPA-MIA fares around $88 inclusive compared to $250+ for MCO-MIA...
