Coke Or Pepsi? Which Airline?

Fri Dec 12, 2003 11:34 pm

Well, instead of A vs. B, what about C vs. P? Big grin Hehehehe This is just for fun.

So, which/what airline serve Coke (Classic Coke/Vanilla Coke/Cherry Coke etc) and whose serve Pepsi (Pepsi Cola/Pepsi Blue etc)? Do they (the airline) stick to one particular cola brand?

Is AF exclusively serving Pepsi onboard their flight? The AF Pepsi Concorde? I guess KLM prefer Pepsi/Pepsi Blue (as on earlier thread).

This is actually quite interesting. Most European airlines serve Coke if i'm not mistaken.

I remember reading in Gordon Bethune's book about Continental's remarkable comeback that they realised their customers wanted coke so they switched from Pepsi.

Coke is supposed to be the official drink of Skyteam, but I'm hearing different from the above posts. I was just watching CNBC, and there was and one of the shows is sponsored by "Skyteam and Coke". It showed an ad with the Skyteam logo next to the Coke one. Didn't know that even place ads together!

Thanks guys. What about Asian carriers? TG? SQ? EK? JAL? ANA? KE? etc?

AirAsia has Coke and Sprite.

I flew MH SYD-KUL-AMS/LHR/FRA/CDG ... all Coke, but that's in 1998-2001. Until recently, (i think) MH has Pepsi onboard. (SYD-KUL-DPS earlier this month)

I think, Virgin Atlantic has Virgin Cola? Big grin

I have several travel agent friends who used to work the Coca Cola account here in Atlanta. Coke employees were not allowed to travel on airlines that served anything other than Coke products. If the Coke-serving airlines were sold out or if there was none in that market the traveler was required to get written approval from a manager to take that carrier. The agents working the account, though not Coke employees, could be fired on the spot if they brought a Pepsi in their lunch bags! Supposedly, Coke employees could be fired if Pepsi products were found in their homes. They don't call 'em cola wars for nothing!

Interesting note - NW stocks both Coke and Pepsi products for trans-pacific flights. Domestic and Europe serve Pepsi, D.Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Ginger Ale, Mountain Dew (domestic) and diet Sierra Mist.
And really, you wouldn't believe the look of utter disgust when a passenger asks for Coke and we say, we have Pepsi...I think some are ready to cry. Who knew soda was such a passionate subject. Drink water.

Sadly, UA ended their contract to provide Coke products on their flights. This past summer when I flew to BOS, I asked for a Coke, but the f/a asked if Pepsi was Ok instead...hell, no!

At least they have Ch. 9...that partially makes up for not having Coke...  Nuts

AA recently took Dr Pepper off their in-flight menus (which was strange to start with, considering Dallas is Dr Pepper's HQ), but they quickly brought it back. Probably lots of FFs calling up AA to wonder what the hell was going on!

As a shareholder of both Coke and UA (at that time anyway), I was pretty disgusted to see that they were switching from Coke to Pepsi. But it is war, and I am sure that Pepsi made them an offer somewhat akin to what Airbus offered them to fly all of the shiny new A319s and A320s. It's competition, and if you are in the boat that UAL was at the time, you sign the contract that makes the most financial sense. I am a Coke drinker myself, and would be even if I was not a shareholder. It's just better to me! Oh well, I drink water most of the time when I am flying anyway... LOL

WN has Coke products and Dr Pepper as well; they used to have Diet Dr Pepper but I'm not sure if they do anymore. It seems like the Texas-based airlines (AA, CO, WN) all serve Dr Pepper products; I imagine that their customers in Texas (where it seems practically everyone drinks Dr Pepper) would pitch a fit otherwise.

I'm another one of those passengers who will say "NO" to "Is Pepsi OK?" I think Pepsi is foul, and given equivalent fares, I will choose an airline that serves Dr Pepper or Coke over Pepsi.

US Major airlines serve Bud I think

I was on a delay for a flight into ATL one time (go figure!), and I heard this really great conspiracy theory from a passenger.

Seems as though he'd been doing a lot of thinking lately, and had come up with a plausible (to him) reason for Delta's new livery change. Now, since both Delta and Coke are both headquartered in Atlanta, it would only make sense that the two cooperate on some sort of marketing agreement, right?

I agreed that, yeah, this is probably more than likely, that Coke employees do most of their flying on DL; and in exchange DL offers Coke on its flights. Then he finished by saying that, because of this agreement, DL recently painted the tails of their aircraft with the wavy red and blue logo because it was similar to a Coke can!

Additionally, he figured that Coke probably paid DL a significant amount of money to do this for "brand recognition". So, it would appear that DL has HP beat out for offering their aircraft for advertisements!!

Middle East Airlines serves Pepsi.

I actually have Pepsi running through my veins. My parents worked for pepsi (if you add their years together) for probably close to 70 years or so and I have also interned with them at length.

So if the airline that I fly on doesn't have Pepsi, then I don't drink anything on there.

in fact, not even a drop of coke has ever entered my body.

Unofrtunately, I don't have the luxury of choosing my airline based on which soft drink they serve.

I think that you will find that most airlines tend to follow the trend of the region in which they are based.

pepsi isn't so hot in many european countries and many european airlines serve coke on board for example...Lufthansa for example.

In many parts of the Middle East, you will find that Pepsi is King, although this is starting to become a myth.

In any event, die Coca-Cola.

Here's an interesting coincidence! The last time I flew NW I asked the F/A for a Pepsi, and immediately after I did, the man who was sitting next to me said to me, "You know, I actually work for Coca-Cola." I felt kinda stupid at the time, but then he told me he was pretty sure that NW only served Pepsi products. I prefer Pepsi over Coke, anyway (I didn't tell him, though), so it worked out. Funny incident, though!

I dont think that LH serves Ginger Ale, i asked for it on my last two transatlantic flights and they didnt have it. In general the drinks on LH are bad, soda is served from large 1.5 L bottles instead of indevidual cans and the TJ is of low quality, and yes no ginger ale.

I always thought I was a minority when I refuse Pepsi when I ask for a coke. Pepsi tastes like crap compared to the original cola. Glad to see most people feel the same way and that coke has the majority of the airlines. That is also great that Subway has switched to Coke. That is one thing that always deters me from eating there. What a blow to pepsi, yay!

I dont think that LH serves Ginger Ale, i asked for it on my last two transatlantic flights and they didnt have it.

Last month they also didn't have Ginger Ale on a FRA-DXB flight.

In general the drinks on LH are bad, soda is served from large 1.5 L bottles instead of indevidual cans...

Also Coke is served from such large bottles, when you are the passenger who gets the last rest of the bottle, you can be sure that there is not a single molecule of carbon dioxide left in your drink, simply annoying. This is the reason why I prefer Coke Light (Diet Coke in the USA), LH serves it in an indevidual small can.

and the TJ is of low quality

The TJ is quite good in my opinion, of course with salt and pepper.

As I mentioned in an earlier reply to this topic, I also can't understand why LH doesn't serve Fanta, it is one of my favorite drinks and available on every LH City Line flight but not on LH mainline.
