US Airways Color Is Blue!

Sat Dec 13, 2003 11:35 am

I don't mean to rant, but I keep seeing people falsely post that US Airways planes are Black. This is WRONG. Their planes are ROYAL BLUE! When combined with thei red and white cheatline it makes their colors red, white and blue *hint hint*.

Normally I would n't say anything about such a small thing, But I keep seeing this mistake over, and over, and over. And as US is 'My' airline. I wanted to make sure people know the truth.  Wink/being sarcastic

Kearnet:

US Airways planes are in fact dark blue. I can see why people keep posting that they're black -- they're such a dark blue it's almost black.

Passengers sometimes ask if the plane is blue or black.

You have almost got to see them in bright sun to tell that they're blue and not black.

Most people think they are black as can be attested to by the number of posts here on A.net referring to them as black.

Yes, Blue....but not Royal Blue. The color is actually called 'USAir Blue'. If I remember I can even get the BAC number at work tomorrow.

Yes, they are. I just retired from there a very few months ago. If you hold an obviously black item like a black laptop case, suitcase, or shoe up to the side of the plane, you will see the plane is blue.

I think it's really nice looking livery, but it is blue instead of black. So sorry.  Sad

Black or Blue, I've always found their current scheme to look kind of sinister. I can't explain why exactly.

I was @ MIA when the "New Identidy" first appeard in '97. PiedmontGirl is right- unless the sun hits it right- it looks black. I've gotten used to it, but I like the post-merger colors better! At least it had the Piedmont blue in the lettering. The first plane I saw was a 757 and my first reaction was:eewww and Yuuck! I wasn't wxactly impressed by the "Airways" either. To me, it will always be USAir, Damn it. I'm old and set in my ways!  Smile

I'm sorry that it wasn't. It should have been.  Embarrassment

Even the passengers that just got on the plane will think it's black. We all just sort of became accustomed to lots of people thinking the livery was black and grey with red and white trim.

Learn something new every day...I thought it was black, but, as I've learned, it's blue.

Duly noted and recorded for future reference.

Iflydlatl:

I can remember walking across the ramp to ride a commuter flight on a pass. I was walking and talking with a gentleman about my own age. It was a bright sunny day, and he looked at the airplane, looked at me, looked back at the airplane, turned and said "That airplane's blue. I always thought they were black!" This was said with a tone of complete amazement.

To me, it will always be USAir, Damn it. I'm old and set in my ways!

That's OK. The employees call it USAir, too. I've never heard anyone refer to it as US Airways in conversation. It's clumsy on the tongue and it sounds funny.

USAir has a nice crisp sound.

US Airways sounds, to me, as if it were dreamed up by someone with way too much time on his hands.

It should be obvious to anyone with correct vision that that is blue and not black. However...I myself think it is closer to being Navy Blue than Royal Blue...I could be mistaken but isn't Royal Blue a bit lighter in color?

US Airways Blue makes Midnight Blue look light by comparison.

Royal Blue is a MUCH lighter color, indeed WGW. Think of the jersey color of the Kansas City Royals and that's Royal Blue. Let's compare:

im sure piedmontgirl can testify the best place you can see it is blue is in the overspray inside the doorjams where you have a very thin coat against the light color of the door jamb you can see it is most def. blue.... im opinionless on the color....

I took my first flight on Allaghany (cant remember it i was a newborn)
My first flight i remember was a Piedmont milk run from PIT to ATL via who knows where in 1982 i still remember the tray table having a cup holder indintation (i think i was 3)

i still refer to them as usair, and the new image though very professional.. is to dismal.. at night its almost like an evil shark camaflauged in the water...

royal blue is what BA has.. I think isn't it?. But unless I have a filter in my eyes or I'm blind for the color blue, I've never seen any kinda blue in that black. I've seen them from relatively close range from the photo holes at FLL and although not a deep black, it still looks black to me...? (I've tried to see it blue)

I share the opinion USAir sounded better.. US Airways sounds as if it were a foreign airline. I like their color scheme, the font they use I find it too weak for such a bold scheme. -besides being inspired obviously by Royal Jordanian, with the red tip on the tail, they could have come up with something different so it wouldn't be so similar.

It's like calling WNs bluw "Canyon Blue" when it's really purple.

Same thing, still looks black no matter what color it really is, hence "Darth Vadar" jokes.

While I am not one of the guilty persons that you accuse of getting the color mixed up, I would NEVER have guessed that their color was blue. I mean, seriously. I think they have one of the classiest liveries around (except for that odd flag on the tail- it's not quite right... the square seems out of proportion to the stripes... but it's good enough. ANYHOW- it's very classy, but of the four of their planes I have flown on, they're definitly too dark to be blue. I mean, I almost don't even believe you folks. It's black. If you say it's blue, okay, but wow. And I have seen their planes in broad open daylight... can't be blue! Just can't!!!

My coworker even boarded the flight and said, "USAir annouces the departure of its flight 396....."

I was like shaking my head as she said it, try to tell her that is not the airline's name. But honestly, when we all talk at work, including myself we say USAir. It is easier to say and sounds nicer. Not sure how USAir would look on the the present scheme.
There is something special about planes....

It's blue, the same very dark blue you get when you look down at the deep sea from a boat. Of course, some people will say that color too is black. But just not a "dark black". But think about it, black by definition cannot be but "DARK". If it is not 100% black it is not really black.

Unfortunately we don't get to see much US Airways machinery, on this side of the pond because it is indeed a very classy livery.

The answer to all the (light-hearted) bickering here is what we call here "Midnight Blue". OK, satisfied?
