Song IFE Deployment

Mon Dec 15, 2003 12:06 am

How is it coming along and has anyone used it yet? They haven't really been promoting it yet for obvious reasons. Is their anyway to tell if your flight has the service on flysong.com or delta.com. I hope it is on my 3 hour flight from Boston.
Looking forward to the new AA

I flew Song last night and heard they had it in 4 planes and that their entire fleet will be equipped before the end of 2004.

Did you happen to find out which aircraft it has been introduced on?

I heard theyre okay. The pictures are a little grainy, and your screen turns black for 5 seconds each time you change the channel. They give you a pair of 'in-ear" headphones instead of the regurlar "headband" style. My friend who flew also mentioned that they had "Irish Dance Month' at Song and the flight attendants conducted a demo to a recorded voice of a female with a fake Irish accent while "River Dance" style music was playing in the background. Said it was terribly cheezy, slightly painful, and pax around him looked uncomfortable or irritated as well... anyone have more info on this???

No it was always the end of 1st quarter that the installation would be finished, now the end of 2004. They really should stop adverstising this as a feature, 4 planes out of 37 or so, so roughly a little under a 10% chance.

Hmm deceptive advertising and cheezy forced FA entertainment, doesn't sound like the revolutionary new concept they've been telling us it is....How is this better than JetBlue again? Does anyone know why they didn't just spend the money to make Delta better? If I want to see Irish Dancing, I'll fly Aer Lingus to Ireland, but Happy Irish Dance month y'all....

Please don't say they do that on B6... I'm flying them in about 3 months and I want to have a good Trip Report from my favorite airline!

I can see it now, a businessman is trying to sleep, when all the sudden:

F/A: HAPPY IRISH DANCE MONTH
and then really loud music starts and all the FA's dance around the plane!
And this businessman who has a meeting in an hour and had a baby who kept him up all night is trying to sleep, but can't! Not good for the airlines reputation.

Hey, I hear next month is FA's dress in bakinis and do the conga month  Big grin
THATs worth staying awake for, as long as its females for me!

JetBlue has had the live television on all their flights since Day 1! Song's IFE deployment is a joke, at best, especially when they advertise it.

JetBlue's product is better, in my opinion. No cheesy jokes, but the FAs do try and promote a friendly, casual atmosphere. I doubt you'll catch them dancing a jig in the aisle though!  Smile JetBlue has LiveTV at every seat on every flight. OK, OK, it goes out about a quarter of the way to Puerto Rico and there are the very occasional technical glitches, but in all of my JetBlue flights, it has been functional. Sometimes the satellite signal is lost during banking turns at low level flight, but it is only for a few seconds usually.

Song's JetBlue clone still has a way to go before they are less Delta and more JetBlue.
None shall pass!!!!

No they didn't. I was working for Jetblue at "day 1". Oh the TV's were INSTALLED, but they weren't operational on all the planes until months later, just like Song. Believe me, I had to deal with passengers bitching about it.

Song has a lot more legroom than Jetblue, the seats are overall more comfortable. The PTV's are much more advanced, better channel selections, video games, and casino gaming for adults. Sure you may have to pay for the food, but the selection is great. And let's not forget the advantage of earning SkyMiles for your flights, which can get you all around the world, not just "exotic" Buffalo, like Jetblue's.

Yes, Song was created to compete with Jetblue. Delta has done one better though, and remember this is coming from someone who used to work for Jetblue. I've only flown on Song twice and I can see the difference.

Oh about the "Irish dance month" thing. I highly doubt that ever happened. There's nothing to prove that other than someone posting "what their friend saw". And we know how accurate the people who post on here can be!

Then again, it's no more ridiculous than Jetblue expecting you to do yoga in your seat, and that's true!  Big grin

Thats simply why I requested more information - to see if anybody else has had experience with this. Considering Songs F/As are called 'Talent' and CSA clap and yell group numbers for boarding, I dont think its too far fetched for Song FAs to perform a physical demo (I never said dancing) to a fake accent and an Irish jig... anyways dude, chill out - your bitterness is apparent... Im awfully glad I dont have to work with you at jetBlue - enjoy Song though!

Hmm sounds like the marketing types forgot that the primary duty of their "talent" is safety, not entertainment. I no more want an entertainer responsible for my in-flight safety than I would want to watch a ballet performed by firemen.

What bitterness? I'm simply stating facts. Based on those facts, my opinion is Song is better than Jetblue. I have no ill-will towards Jetblue, I have many friends that work for them. I'd still be there if my living situation didn't change. But strictly from a passenger standpoint, I believe Song is the better option.

As far as the FA's being called "talent" I have to admit that's pretty lame, but be assured that they all pass through Delta mainline training, which is of the highest standard. Knowing that, I like FA's that are confident enough to show some personality.
