Foreign Airlines Operating To Russian Fed States?

Tue Dec 16, 2003 10:52 pm

Majority fly to Russian cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk others, but which fly to cities inside each republic that makes up the Russian federation, I know of the following:

Lufthansa to Kazan in Tatarstan, a tiny oil rich Muslim republic.

Another interesting fact, Tajikistan in the only former Soviet republic without the services of a major airline, all the rest i.e Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrghyzstan, Kazakhstan and ofcourse Russia have one or more major airlines flying to their cities.

Which airlines fly to Kaliningrad? those who dont know its a tiny bit of Russia cut of from the rest of the country and nestled between Poland and Germany, formerly it was known as Konigsburg?.

Here's a list of teh republics that make up the Russian federation, unlike states/provinces, these are small countries with in Russia, http://www.flags.net/RUSS1.htm

AFAIK OS is planning to fly to Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan). I think they are in talks about possible subsidies from the local government at the moment, because OS would not be able to make a lot of money until the service becomes well-known among potential customers. If they manage to agree on something, OS could start VIE-UFA with the next summer timetable I guess.
I'm not sure about any existing flights to the different Republics apart from LH's FRA-KZN you've mentioned.
Doesn't SK fly CPH-KGD too?

Air France will launch next February a flight to Atyrau, Kazakhstan.
The route will be CDG-IEV-Atyrau 3x weekly.

Oil industry is very important in Atyrau.

Hi Donder10

The flight to Atyrau will be on a F100.... what can you expect with the F100?
Just a bad service !!
Why not the A318 or the A319 ??

You think that AF will start Malabo and Pointe Noire with the A319BJ ??

Almost certain I've read that around.Point Noire surprised me(isn't that far from Brazzaville but I doubt the road links are great to say the least!)although it's reasonably big but and is at the heart of the oil industry.I expect a few other airlines to start flights to Malabo in the next few years including BA.

I believe question is not about airlines, flying to former Soviet republics, but instead about airlines, flying to Republics inside current Russian federation.
E.g. Tatarstan (Kazan), Chechnya (Jokhar/Grozno), Yakutia (Yakutsk), Bashkirostan (Ufa), Buryatia, Tanu Tuva, Mariy El Republic, Dagestan (Makhachkala), Adygea, Ingushetia, Karelia (Petrozavodsk), etc.

BTW, Airmale, Kaliningrad is between Poland and Lithuania, not Poland and Germany.

Yes as Sonic said the question was about republics inside Russia and NOT the former Soviet ones.

I think Air France did not get permission to fly to Kazakhstan.

Any chances of BA/Bmed flying to Turkmenistan and Tajikistan? that would complete their Central Asian network.

Airmale
'Lufthansa to Kazan in Tatarstan, a tiny oil rich Muslim republic.'

Tatarstan is not a muslim republic and not really oil rich either. Perhaps you mixed up with Tadjikistan.

Air Gabon
'LH is flying to Perm, Samara, Volgograd, Kazan, Nijni Novgorod and Ekaterinburg. Before they flew to Novossibirsk.'

Lufthansa does not fly to Volgograd. They used to earlier on however.

Frankfurt and Vienna are the gateways to cities in the CIS with Lufthansa focusing on Russia and OS on cities in the Ukraine (Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa) and there are dozens of babyflotters that fly to FRA from the area they serve.

Swake

Yes Tartar's are Muslims, sorry if you find it offensive, I have a friend who's married to a Tartar woman, whos Muslim and according to her the republic is also, and last I heard they had aboundant Oil reserves, this was in the mid 90's, "Tartar Sauce" the Mayonnaise/Pickle/Veggie dip, eaten with deep fried, batter coated fish (I'm salivating just typing this) in some parts of the world is also is a contribution of this republic.

Swake,Tajikistan is the poorest of the fomer Soviet republics atleast in the Central Asian region, you must be reffering to Kazakhstan, becuase my geograhpical knowledge, with the exception of the Kaliningrad mistake above is in the top tier at this forum, it was my favorite subject in school.

Chechenya, also Muslim, has some kind of reserves too I dont know if its Oil or Gas or some other Mineral's, thats why Russia dosent want them to break away, otherwise who the heck would care for an area thats an underdeveloped, paraih with no scope (except its untapped resources), populated by a fatalistic buch of bandits, men and now women as well.

Ingushetia and Dagestan are also Muslim republics.

There are 20 million Muslims in Russia and its federal republics.

For those who dont get it, the former USSR republics are as follows:

Kazakhstan
Kyrghyzstan
Tajikistan
Uzbekistan
Turkmenistan
Azerbaijan
Armenia
Georgia
Moldova
Ukraine
Belarus
Latvia
Lithuania
Estonia
Russia

all are now independent countries and not part of Russia either, the Russian Federation republics are listed in the link provided in the main topic.

Asides the problem of seperatism, where they are afraid that independence of Chechnia might cause a domino efect in the region, the biggest reason for the Russians is that the main pipe line from the oilfields at Baku to the Black Sea is running through the country.

Airmale:
"I think Air France did not get permission to fly to Kazakhstan."

AF has just received the permission to fly from CDG to Atyrau, via Kiev (IEV).

And CSA will fly from Prague to Samara in the near future.
