New NW Nonstop Memphis-Boise = Why?

Wed Dec 17, 2003 5:24 pm

Does anyone in our large NW member group know why NW has added a once a day MEM-BOI flight? Not only that they don't have a return nonstop. Only connections via MSP or DTW. If they really are trying to make MEM better then why this? Add to that the return to the already proven disastrous directional hub system that failed once before. Obviously they can cut hub personnel if less planes on ground during a push but pax also have half the connections.

That doesn't make very much sense for NW to do this. If they want to go out west, why not more popular winter vacation spots, like Eagle,CO? Have they said what a/c they are going to use? Would the ARJ have the fuel range for that trip?

It's NW1275. Can't get a acft type but the number indicates a mainline acft. Seems the Orbitz, part owned by NW, also doesn't know about it. Also brilliant. Looks like its through Dec only so it's possible ski related. An EPF (Equipment Positioning Flight) they just made live for the h--- of it. Or... A mistake. It's not the first time a fake flight has appeared then is gone before service starts. Any comments on the new directional hub??

it is NWA 1275, but it is a direct flight, one stop service via MSP, not a nonstop, an A319, the Short Bus

I have a question for the large NW member group also. Northwest just announced new twice a day nonstop service from DTW to Duluth, MN. The flights will be operated by Pinnacle using the CRJ, and will begin March 1. Didn't NW try this route before?....and, if they did fly this route, what a/c type did they use...DC-9 or ARJ?

It did try the route before with the ARJ. It was pulled before moving into the new terminal in DTW. As DLH is an Airbus maintenance hub I thought maybe there would be a positioning flight with A320/319 aircraft but this surprises me it goes back to small equipment. I have no idea what kind of market is there.

Yeah, when I first heard about the new DTW-DLH service I would've suspected it would've been with an A319/A320 in order send aircraft to/from maintenance. This could be in response to American Eagle just reinstating ORD-DLH service too.

Or, it simply could be because NW isn't done "connecting the dots" within their domestic network. DLH flights tend to be very full. There could be a high percentage of fliers who are double connecting to DTW, so nonstop service could be lucrative. If the route proves itself, it may someday graduate to an ARJ or maybe even DC9.

I am actually going to fly on NW1275 tomorrow (MSP-BOI). The flight comes in from Memphis at 7:36 p.m. and leaves for BOI at 9:02 p.m. The flight is operated by an Airbus A320 Wink/being sarcastic

NW is adding their 3rd BOI-MSP flight tomorrow until first week of Jan, then resume it in May, I believe. Sure makes the quick daytrip to Mall of America a lot better!
I think all the people asking what NW will replace their DC-9s with have to look no further than the Airlink CRJs!

NW LIT-MSP Service

Thu Dec 18, 2003 12:44 pm

This is just a little side note. LIT will finally have non-stop service to MSP starting on March 29, 2004. Flt 5668 will depart at 735a and flt 5608 will depart at 135p. It sucks that we will be using CRJs but I guess growth is growth. $$$

I NEVER thought I'd ever the day when NW flew to all 3 hubs from "The Rock!"
